So, I assume you mean assault rifle proficiency vs light weapon sharpshooter. My understanding is that sharpshooter will not improve your damage at all, except insofar as you can now hit targets you couldn't hit before once they were out of range. As you can see, the description for sharpshooter only lists a range increase. If you can verify that damage goes up, I would very much like to know, but I'm guessing this is just a perception thing.
So if you want more damage, I think assault rifle proficiency or weaponry are your best choices.
Edit: or carry an SMG or similar for a sidearm and use that close range! |

I am a bit puzzled by some things said in this thread, but particularly this. I wasn't sure, but I am guessing that what is being said is that once you're outside optimal, damage falls off but does not disappear immediately. So, you can increase your damage by raising sharpshooter since you are doing more damage to targets you can currently only just hit, and by doing some damage to some targets you can't currently reach.
But the OP stated, "I want to increase short range damege with AR". And so I'm not sure why training sharpshooter is the right suggestion to help fulfil this desire. It seems to me, as I suggested, that AR proficiency and weaponry are the skills to raise to increase short range damage.
One reply here stated that increasing sharpshooter 'will however make "short range" a little bit longer'. But it's not clear what the OP had in mind. If he's thinking of close quarter maps and wants to do more damage when he runs around a corner and is face to face with an enemy, sharpshooter isn't the right skill. If by "short range" he simply meant, "range at which I'm doing maximum damage", then this might be the right answer. But it seems to me that this is not likely to be the OP's original meaning. |
