Because warhammer would put a bayonet on a tank, or a supersonic fighter. Yes, two factions in that game have jet fighters with melee attacks, Space elves and space orcs no less. The last fps in that universe also had a hammer with an aoe effect, no wonder it came to mind.
A heavy could use a heavy melee in combination with a bubble shield(mentioned in a dev blog as coming) at a choke point, would you want to try attacking a heavy with giant hammer if it can only be shot at from 3 feet away? It could also be a good way to destroy a fixed impalement or close-able destructible doors.
I would like a smart bomb like weapon, but think it would be better as a emp pulse or like typhoon system from deus ex: human revolution. deus ex wiki page on typhoon system For those unfamiliar with game, it would not one kill a augmented human with similar capability to the player char. It took 2-3 explosions to kill a augmented person. |

Yes, Sansha tanks with impact damage bonus. That would be sweet.
A large thunder hammer/gravity hammer could fit as a battering ram. Swat teams and troops clearing room to room have very medieval like battering rams in modern materials. A high tech sludge could serve a similar function, it should not be an effective weapon more a utility device in weapon slot with a niche combat use.
Dropping a heavy on top a hav from a dropship could do a lot of damage, or against a blast door or emplacement. Heavy getting kills with it would be very unlikely due to heavies low speed. Hammers in space marine were effective since they were on fastest class with flight, having them on slowest class changes role to a more realistic one.
About realism of beating a tank with a hammer, most tanks have search lights/weapon mounts/sensors/heat vent, radiator covers that a human standing on top off could smash with a hammer. Hard part would be getting on top to do it without getting shot, Dust would work same way if it was a melee with good efficiency vs structures and vehicles. No few hit kills, but if you manage to ride on tank long enough to hit it 40 times it should feel it. |
