These both made something occur to me that I hadn't thought of before. I've made threads before about my concern related to trying to make aircraft that attempt to fulfill a Fighter and Gunship role at the same time, but I was only thinking in terms of Planetside.
Who here remembers Warhawk? Specifically that both aircraft had the ability to enter into a "hover mode" that let them behave somewhat like a helicopter, though in the simpler control format that game supported?
That got me thinking that you -could- theoretically have an aircraft in Dust that could be good at both roles if it had defined "modes" that it switched between. You'll notice that the concept art for the Gallente Fighter specifically mentions a hover mode as well as showing that the gunner-operated turret is retracted for forward flight.
My suggestion would be to follow a similar direction to how they are now approaching suits. Have the "Tech-1" aircraft combine the two roles, while the "Tech-2" aircraft you could unlock with specialization of the original skill would allow you to use aircraft that do either one or the other. |

In hover mode, it would behave like a very light version of a dropship, requiring a skilled pilot rather than being easy-mode like the dropships used to be.
I was using Warhawk as an analogy. |

Mary Sedillo wrote:Did you forget how OP that mechanic was? Just no. I've only played the game once or twice, and the fact that it was implemented incorrectly in one game hardly guarantees it must always be so.
Recall for instance that I mentioned the Empire Specific Fighters in Planetside 2, and how underpowered they are despite following the same concept. Yeah, I know some people will argue, but it's childishly easy to kill those things, and their damage output isn't really that great, especially against infantry. |
