This may seem like second nature to most people here, but I haven't seen it stated, so I'll post it.
There are a few universal rules that should be followed when playing ticket based games. If you are new to this sort of system, please keep them in mind.
1. Pay attention to the ticket count. If you are stinking up the joint and the game is close. Don't spawn. If I have a negative K\D and the ticket count is low. I just let the better players try to finish. This will save a lot of wins that would otherwise turn into losses. If you are in a group, give them a second to revive you. Remember, they need to clear the area first.
2. Use Push to Talk. Nobody wants to listen to you rage about every single kill. Nobody wants to listen to you yell at your dog or kids.
3. Never revive in the middle of a firefight unless you have cover. Running out into a bullet storm seems heroic, but in the end you are going to die and if you res your buddy into that mess, he won't be happy.
4. If you are struggling, stay with your squad and if you are separated at least stay with your team. Soak up those kill assists, ammo drops, revives. You don't have to take everyone out yourself.
5. Communicate. If a drop zone is hot, let your team know so no one spawns there. Let your team know about locations. Try to be specific, use names if you can.
6. Watch your mini map. If you see two or three team deaths pop up, you need help before entering that area. Don' round that corner and be the next body.
I'm sure I missed something. Someone imparted this to me years ago, just passing it on. |

But really, map awareness is something you need to always keep in mind. Know where you allies are and are not, if you're on the end of the mass and aren't looking out for possible flankers it's your own fault you eat shot gun pellets to your back.
Also, some of the best sniping spots are right in the thick of a mass of blueberries. |

Eh... I have to disagree. The only place to practice how to pilot a vehicle is in matches. The game gives no tutorials, all but the base LAV will cost you money, and you will have to learn while people are shooting at you. That's just the way they've designed this (ideally, you could try out the weapons at a range, or try out vehicle handling in a sandbox).
I'd recommend checking the vehicle/flight controls for reference first. But the random people in pub games will always have to bear the brunt of you learning things (weapons, etc.) because there is no other place for you to do so. Your sucking throughout a match as you blow yourself up with a mass driver will hopefully teach you to be more effective in the future.

You may think that anyone can be a gunner in an LAV or a dropship; as a pilot of both, I can tell you that 80-90% of players are worthless behind the turret of one of them. |

Sad but true Silly MCC shooters always giving away my position when I'm trying to sneaky or shooting at our teammates when there are three guys with swarms 50 feet to the left. Sad, so sad |

Agreed. It's easier to do with infantry weapons and load outs because you can use a supply depot to change. If you bring in something on an expensive vehicle, you cannot just change it out to try something new. There have been a few times where I have tested something on my HAV and have had to pretty much sit in the back because it was useless.
Or I'd try a railgun and just spend a match pew-pewing from behind the red line. That's how almost all railgun tankers learn to use a railgun. It's not as ezmode as the sniper rifle where the bullet travels faster than the speed of light -_- It takes some time learning how far you have to lead targets by based on their speed, distance, build, etc. etc.
Eventually HAV operators will move on to moving and shooting, but one has to start somewhere. |

if there is a blue sniper 2m to left and a blue sniper 2m to right and another blue sniper 2m in front of you so should not be sniping from here and probably not be sniping at all. just saying if over a quarter of your team is sniping then you should not join and definitely not right next to the mass of snipers.
omfg the last game made me mad about this. 8 of the 16 people were sniping and only 1 was not in the same small area. needless to say we lost by MCC and was close to losing by clones 7 snipers all on B in manus peak and I still got sniped at trying to hold onto A. |

The major difference I've found between Dust and most other fps games (apart from maybe MAG) is that this really isn't a game for lone wolfs. You need to stick together if you want to win and even then it can be hard.
But that's what makes this game better n more enjoyable than your standard fps. |

Push to talk gets you killed.
Do not use push to talk - use the "mute" switch on your mic if you need to mute yourself in those temporary situations when RL takes over for a second.
If someone is yelling at their kids or dog in the middle of the match, the fact that everybody else gets annoyed hearing it is the least of our concerns because
A) Get off the game and take care of your damn kids you manchild lowlife and
B) Distracted teammates suck and you're going to get us both killed. Know when to "Take 5". |
