I doubt it too. I'd even accept Dust514 as a textadventure if it ran at 60 fps. Framerate trumps everything.

It is stated that they are improving the look and speed of graphics. Not much more detail than that. I don't get all these massive framerate drops anyways, so it isn't a big deal for me. |

Depending on where you are based some of the recent frame rate drops can effect an entire Squad. If that happens the likely cause is the Squad was moved to a different regional server for the match. This can result in very laggy behavior. All the coding in the world is not going to fix having to bounce messages half way around the world to shoot a gun, register the hit and let both sides know the results.
And to the OP. I am sure they can knock this out over the weekend. It's only software. |

Though of course the network latency is pretty abysmal in this game, too. I ping a server 500 km from my location at 20 ms, I ping Dust's european battleservers at 200 ms. Awesome! |

Yeah, it reminds of my days as a kid first trying to run Mechwarrior on my crappy Windows 98 PC... Didn't realize the slow-motion disaster I would experience if my system's MAXIMUM output is the game's MINUMUM requirements...
In any case, I can tolerate 30 fps. 60 is not required. I find 30 is easier on my eyes actually. I just want that 30fps to be CONSISTENT.
The fps loss we're seeing here has been persistent for a while now, it usually only shows up after you have played for several hours, and then go into a graphic intensive "city/base map", like the SkyFire cannon map, or the gallente base map like in the video.
There's clearly a lingering memory leak somewhere. |

What you don't appear to know is that the entire system has to sync up. The more Mercs that are located further out on the ping trail the worse it gets. And it effects the frame rate in this game. Why? Who knows. This is the CCP Server architecture and this is what the game is based on. That is just the way it is. In EVE they have time dilation but that is probably the worst possible thing one could do to a shooter.
So, a full battle means that 37 systems have to sync and somehow when you are working with 200ms pings it all goes south (or north depending on where you are). The slower everyone is the worse it gets. This is evident when US players get moved to Non-US servers and our pings double or worse. Then the game is a slide show (A new Frame every few seconds or so) and entire squads drop out of battles.
Starting in a different battle that doesn't get moved out of the region and ... no frame rate issues. Which according to you shouldn't matter.
Changing to a 60FPS from a 30FPS is not going to help anybody if they cannot maintain 30FPS. There is no way the PS3 can handle is with this version of UnReal. |
