DUST is supposed to reach the players that would not play EVE, hence the console and the near opposite play-style of the games

You do not need to catch up to the veterans to be competitive. In Eve, you can become competitive almost immediately, and just as good, in a single role, as a veteran in a matter of a few months - just like dust.
