Hmm, how nice to hear that after coming back from a ceremony about that. |

Marston VC wrote:I don't understand why theres so much hype these days over things that happened about 70 years ago. What the ***** did was terrible yes, but theres a point where people have to move on. If I were to name my character based off any of the major empires that have risen and fallen in the last thousand years (which have no doubt also performed terrible deeds as well), would I get this much flak for it??
For example.... if I named myself "Vlad the Impaler" Would I get reported because my name is the same as a king who, for pleasure, had massive spikes plowed through people while they were still alive?? In my opinion the brutality showed between both the ***** and vlad were on a similar level, yet I doubt I would get in trouble for using vlad as a name.
In fact the only difference these days is that people have a few grandparents/ great grandparents who "lived when it happened" but that's kind of a mute point anyway because I doubt anyone who is 70 and older is actually playing this game to begin with. So what then? its offensive to jews? I mean I guess you can justify that but again I want to just tell me to to "move on"...... 70 years is not that long. And the main reason people cling is because there are people alive who lived through it. I know some people who have the mark the N-a-z-i's put on them. There are thousands of people like that, not just 10, 20, or 200. There have been barely a few generations between then and now.
For a lot of people, its still very much fresh even 70 years later. And I think it would take a long time before a Jew could brush off the fact that 6 million of his people died in 7 years. |

There's also a massive difference between vague and inconsistent stories of a centuries old historical figure's antics which can't be verified other than what someone wrote or painted (i.e., citation needed!), and events that occurred in living memory which involve gruesome war crimes. That too. My grandmother died not too long ago, I never got much information from her about it. Everytime I asked, she teared up and couldn't say anything. |

There are 5500 Africans dying everyday. That's 2 millions a year. 14 million in 7 years. And it's happening NOW.
It turned into that because the offence was relevant to the holocaust. Perhaps you should be more sensitive? Sensitivity? On the internet? lol |

Making a toon name like that isn't starting a real discussion on the subject, and this isn't Naked Lunch or Ulysses we're talking about. Could you please rephrase that somehow? I don't understand what you mean. |

I don't understand what you mean. I meant that A) those kind of names in particular are only meant to offend. Usually "censorship", in a broader sense, is associated with stifling ideas or discourse. This simply isn't the case here because there is no discourse going on, it's just a name someone picked to see who he could rile up. B) a username is not in the same category of speech as, for example, literature. Both of the books I mentioned have been censored/banned in various locales, and were later defended on the grounds of having artistic merit (the basis of the US and UK court decisions, at least). Somebody's username is not something you can seriously argue a defence of on those grounds. Well then I agree with that. |
