Today I have been having hellish hit detection and as a Scout it is extremely detrimental to my survivability as a Scout. That 10-20 bullets not registering any dmg can mean the difference of life or death. Is this a lag issue? Is this just some problem with the servers lately? Am I the only person having this today?
Some answers would be appreciated, if this is a lag issue on my part does anybody have advice? I have turned modem and router off for like 2 hours earlier and it worked for about a hour but than the really bad hit detection started up again. Sometimes I would hit somebody with a grenade and it would blow up in his face but do no damage. |

I have this all the time. It's an ongoing issue... hopefully it will be fixed somewhat come may 6 |

So CCP knows about this? I am just making sure it's them and not me?
If this is on their side than all I can do is wait. If it is on my end than I need to figure out how to fix it. |

You've been having this only recently? Notice how some games you wreck face and some games nothing you do seems to work? We are more consistent that these stats seems to suggest. It really hurts when your a scout suit with a shotgun. If you have lag, with a shotgun, that equals a complete miss. SUCKS!
Yea, I experience this every other day for game after game. |

This would by why my initial experiments with the breach shotgun did not go well. Thank you for confirming.

hey xero - hit detection is caused by the server improperly realizing your position compared to bullet fired. This is not due to lag it's a server side issue. |

Just to rub it in the game would show the big explosion on target. The sidearm then functioned normally, go figure.
Hit detection issues have been improving. Lag is the bigger threat now. Nothing like driving a LAV over someone only to miss him because he wasn't really there anymore. |

It's Friday night for me. I guess there are more players stressing the server. I think there is a event right now that if you played 100 games in a week you'll get something special.

Is it one week? I thought it was for the whole month or something? I know it they got something going on Weds-Sun. If you play 5 games each on those days you get prizes I seen a link on it.
I think this is it. |

As keeps being pointed out, hit detection is handled server-side.
If you happen to have a laggy connection that day, or the game connects you - for whatever reason - to a server other than your local, then it's entirely possible that you're simply firing 0.3 seconds later than you think (sometimes even more) because of the way the game works.
In that case, the problem is more about you not adjusting to that situation.
You can (usually) get at least an approximation of your required lead time by firing and watching the ammo count on your weapon. Just tap the fire button, and time how long it takes for the ammo counter to drop. Once you've got that idea in your head, aim where your target will be in about that amount of time, and 99% of hit detection problems disappear.
That last 1% is either terrain glitching (possible because the terrain models vary at different distances, but hit detection through them doesn't) or the rare few legitimate hit detection problems. There are issues, it's not perfect, but it's been getting better with every build. Hopefully Uprising will continue the trend in this regard (even though as a Scout, hit detection improvements are an effective "soft nerf" on my playstyle).
Hope that helped. |

When you're a Scout though. That one 0.3 seconds can mean death. I realize I am not playing Scout the traditional way I play it assault role. Usually I can pull this off but in that lag with hit detection issues you are taking away the ONE thing I have to kill enemies. |

If you're lagging by 0.3 seconds, fire where the target WILL BE in 0.3 seconds, rather than aiming where they ARE NOW on your screen. The game tracks hit detection server-side, so THAT is where your shots are going to hit, not where you're seeing them.
Hitscan means instant-hit, but it's instant-hit based on the SERVER, not on your own view.
Enemy: o Movement direction: >>> Where to aim: x
o>>>x
The more lag you have, the further you lead your shots. HItscan says you hit the instant the data reaches the server. If it's taking 0.3s to reach the server, you need to be aiming that far ahead of where you see the enemy. |

this is part of the reason the MD is ten times less deadly then it should be, and weapon swapping is less useful then it should be.
although frankly I'd be curious to find out how much of this is sony's fault. God knows the market glitches and contact problems would be significantly less if they were ccp side. |

When I went home for spring break and was on my parents 3mbs/.7up internet connection Dust really suffered. It got to the point where I couldn't hit anything, but I was also damn near invincible. After a few nights of absurd lag I gave up on it. At my apartment (30mbs/3up) I have very few issues with hit detection, I suspect the rare issue is someone else having a broken connection when they jump all over the place and I can't land bullets. |

Was in a earlier game with couple of your guys. I was holding two objectives and cru. (B and C) When one of the blokes that sneaked in caught ME by surprise. I ran 4 shots with my militia shotty at close range and only 2 registered! And It just nicked his shields! lol Bastard got cocky and moved 2 ft closer and and I caught him with a fifth shot. It all registered. OHK. But man, would've died.
Looking at you ccp.
