For the past 2 days about this time I start skipping really bad. No matter what game mode I play it still teleport around and choppy. Is anybody else having this problem? My squad is also skipping up and such so I know it's not just me. |

Ah so you think that's what it is? Makes sense but I have always played at this time and it never skips. I guess it's just luck of draw if you are in matches in NA servers or other country servers? |

I've had this too, but only the last 2 nights, and exactly around this time. Also we tried OMS and no problems there, but it continued on normal Ambush. |

or just use common sense. how would several REGIONAL servers work for a game with only ONE persistent world?
if there ever were regional servers, then it wouldnt even make a difference in latency, because the regional servers would always have to share the data with a main server before thus the regional servers would be useless and a waste of money because routing already takes care of this. in short, there are no regional servers. |

Actually, EVE runs on multiple servers, and the devs have confirmed that there are servers for DUST in US, EU and Asia. Servers in EVE handle specific systems, and when you move into a new system, you may or may not shift onto a different server. Jita has its own server. In DUST, individual battles are handled on a case-by-case basis. |

Individual matches are hosted in regional battle servers that are tied to the main Tranqulity server in London. The regional servers are necessary to have reasonable ping times and reduce latency, which are far more important in an FPS like DUST 514 than a game like EVE Online.
It is quite possible that due to your playing time, the population of players in your local region are too low and you're being put into another region's servers. It could also be an issue with your internet connection, but figuring out which is outside of my technical prowess. |

I'm myself using a WiFi connection far away with lots of interference, so I run ping on the next hop continuously to spot issues.
http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/troubleshooter/traceroute.html
Use traceroute on som external server to find the IP's of the hops out to the wider internet, and then pick one that looks like it's going from your ISP to the wider internet. Keep pinging that while playing.
Not sure if the battle servers respond to pings, however if they do that's also an idea. To get them depends on what kind of device you use for your internet connection, most routers can be logged into to see active connections. |

Yes.
I've noticed a few times where others suddenly teleport a hundred meters or more, and I'm playing in NA in the evening when you would expect a fairly large user population. |

It might be time for you to take some night classes regarding servers and DUST. You might try a University that has classes about DUST.

battle servers are a whole different story and CCP Eterne also confirmed what I said. if you are put into match with someone of another region those servers do not affect the latency at all. |

I have been having this issue for about a week. I perform well and everything works as intended in the first one or two games. After that, I start to get the skippy lag, the annoucer voice starts glitching, and then people kill me in like one or to hits from like 150m away with a HMG. By the way, I play scout. |

And for you gentlemen that doubt what Gunner said above, this is CCP confirming his explanation
There isn't enough active players on dust to deliver balanced matchmaking to each regional server. So, about this time, when server populations are low in your time zone the dust matchmaking system will try setting you up in a game on a distant server that's in need of a player.

of course there are more servers to handle the customer base (at work I have 5 webservers running and they can handle up to 2000 people at once, well they can handle more but with alot of delays ) but regional battle servers are something different than servers handling game world and dust servers are most likely seperated anyway. I dont know how CCP handle the architecture but I can safely assume that the regional game server of dust does not hold the world data and the game server in dust only serve one thing, hosting a match and pass the result to the server farm holding all revelant stuff (because it would be the most logical thing to do), thus my statement holds true as he was not mentioning any matchmaking servers at all. dustwaffle wrote:Not empty quotin' KalOfTheRathi wrote:@Jack McReady from DUST University. Wow a dev comes in here and basically shuts down your logic and you still double down, man some people just cant stand the idea of being proven wrong
