Hey,
I've been playing around with these for a few battles and I just can't seem to get one of the grenades to land on someone.
How should I be aiming this? I appreciate the lines signify the range etc, but I can't seem to land shot on anyone.
Sadly... no... this is not a troll.

Dont bother with the sights they are useless. And all i can say is practice practice practice. Try walking shots onto target and you soon wont need to, first shot is a hit if not very close. Not much help but all i got. |

depending how far the enemy is away and how fast he is moving, aim above your target and predict movement.
if you are close range, aim slightly behind your target or you hit yourself with the splash damage radius.
and dont use the assault version in close range, no chance to evade the huge splash radius. |

unlike many games that have a grenade launcher, the Mass Driver here isn't E-Z Mode. This weapon is the only one with ballistics as a key feature. It's a situational weapon, designed for cover fire. The best place for firing the MD is from above where the ballistics don't matter as much and it goes pretty much in a straight line. The worst place for you to be is bellow your target because at that point you are wanting a direct hit and can't rely on splash damage. |

As everyone above me has said, it just takes practice, lots and lots of practice. You will get to a point where it becomes second nature and you can get a direct hit on almost every shot. Also, if you are going to want to be successful with the MD you need to learn the arcs (both when your on high ground, below the enemy, or when the enemy is right in front of you). One tip I can give you that helped me a lot is learn to circle strafe, for some reason when you shoot while strafing you can almost completely flatten the arc, but it will take time to figure out when to shoot and how to shoot.
Don't give up, as it's an interesting weapon and don't listen to the mercs who tell you its a noob tube (yes the majority of the mercs out there just spray n pray, but there are a small group of MD users who strive for accuracy. Hopefully you fall into the later category)
Good luck and have fun :)

Yeah, as said before: practice.
Try also to use the massdriver as an artillery - hide behind hills and use it for indirect fire. This weapon is good for close-quarter fight, too. You can secure a corner and prevent red to rush or shell a red cloner while your mates are attacking.
If you got used to the arc, its a pretty multi-tool.
In the beginning you can stay behind your squad and support attacks, DMG-mods are usefull with it! |

Hey,
Thanks for the positive and supportive messages..... I was certainly expecting lots of *cough* other replies!
I'll work on the tips and perhaps use them a little more than I am currently doing.
Would you say level 3 was a fair enough level to be 'giving them a go'?

I suggest practicing with the breach mass driver (what I did) However, don't expect to get any decent number of kills. It'll take a while to readjust to the arc of standard ones, but you'll find out you're much better at getting direct hits- since that's what's required to kill with the "minmatar shotgun" (breach MD) |

It is quite simple to learn to use the hip fire radical for the massdriver:
1. Find a patch of level ground (a good stretch of it at that).
2. Set the very bottom Line of the massdriver to appear as though it is touching the ground as far away from you as posible witout lifting the bottom line of the arrival off the ground.
3. fire a round (I assure you that it will land where the radicle says it should).
4. Memorize the distance the mass round travels.
5. Each time you drop a radicle line to the horizon it will be one quarter the distance.
6. The rest is being able to do quick mathematical adjustments in your head on the fly. |

A lot of good info posted above!
I would suggest starting off with the assault MD, The reason this is because you can fire faster, and you have a larger splash area. Now, once you get better you can move to the standard MD and it will have a smaller splash, slower ROF BUT it will will deal a significant amount damage compared to the assault.
Feel free to hit me up in game... granted I don't get on a whole lot. |

I think you need to go to level 3 minimum to really get a feel for the mass driver. The difference between the standard MD and the EXO-5 is huge. Do yourself a favor and always use the EXO-5.
As far as aiming, go aim for the feet. While getting a direct hit is nice (and does significantly more damage), just try to repeatedly hit for splash damage. With the EXO-5 it generally takes 3-4 splash hits to kill someone.
Mass Drivers are also much more effective when shot downward. Go for the highground when possible. If you're on level ground, I suggest taking a small jump as you shoot. This is a bit of a tricky technique, but if can get you a better angle/trajectory for your shot.
Good luck! |

I cannot agree more with this statement. Until you get the EXO-5, you don't really know if it's the weapon for you or not.
Here's the things you need to understand about the MD: 1) It's not just a support weapon, it's a situation weapon. Maps like Manus Peak are horrible for it. 2) It's really not a killing weapon until you put points into Proficiency if you are going against players with higher SP and gear. 3) Using an MD is like playing basketball. the shots have an arc and you are likely trying to hit a moving hoop. 4) At heart it is a grenade launcher, so you can use it to hit guys that are corner camping 5) It can eat a heavy alive if used properly. 6) Increase the capacity or invest in nano's
If you run solo all the time, I wouldn't bother with the MD. It's the kind of weapon you need to have in a squad setting. Also, if you are going to go MD, then you need to go hard with it SP wise...make it your main line weapon, don't half ass it.

With the proposed May 6 change I think I might put all my points between then and now into it to give it a good test and then drop points elsewhere on May 6.
Thank you all for your responses. I've got a lot of advice to test now :) |
