This part 3 will be focusing on Precision Strikes and how to improve on them.
Part 1 on Objective Spawning. Part 2 on CRUs. Part 4 on Ambush.
There are a couple of things I want to discuss regarding the Precision Strikes (and Orbital Bombardments in general).
For reference the Precision Strikes are the NPC ones coming from the Warbarge and the Orbital Bombardments are from EVE pilots.
1. The PS/OB should not be instakill strikes.
I don't really have anything against the damage any of them do because they should be able to take out a tank (even the PS). Some high-end tanks are able to survive most of the strikes anyway as I understand it.
What I do mind though is the fact that there's pretty much no warning prior to the strikes hitting, and there should be in my opinion. Now, I don't want it to be something like a 5 or 10 second warning, because that would just be dumb. However, there should be a warning that's a few seconds longer than the current one, so a 3 second or so warning prior to the strike hitting the ground.
This would give the players at the edge of the strike the opportunity to escape the strike and tanks would be somewhat able to as well. Players at the center would still be killed though.
This is actually not a nerf to the strikes in any form as long as they're just used in the right way. The PS/OB should be used in a support function ie when someone on your team is about to assault an objective the strike should be used to clear out that objective right before they assault it. With a 3 second warning it would still do what it's supposed to because even if some manages to escape the strike they would still be killed by the players that are about to assault his position.
2. The PS/OB shouldn't be tied to Warpoints.
This thread touches on the same idea and that's basically what I also want it to be like.
Basically the PS/OB should just have a cooldown per squad, and maybe a general cooldown for the entire team. This would be a system very similar to something that worked really well in MAG.
With this system any squad can use their PS/OB from the start of the match. If Squad A uses theirs at the start it will then be on cooldown for x amount of time, 5 minutes for example. There would also be a teamwide cooldown in between each strike, which means that Squad B and C must wait x amount of time, 30 seconds for example, before one of those those squads can use theirs. |

Problem - what to stop them spam the strike at the very start of the match where they all spawn?
I dont like everyone gets a free strike, its already a free strike and easy to earn as it is, 16v16 you can have 8 2man squads which means 8 free strikes without doing anything for it, it would ruin any type of teamwork and dont even think of using a vehicle because they would drop 3 strikes on it to begin with meaning certain death, the death of vehicles and the death of AV making it a ground pounding game
They should have to earn a strike, its bad enough they are allowed access to strikes, i feel that they should come from EVE players only as it is and are only allowed in low sec and null sec space, high sec is closed
Point 2 is just a whole big bad idea
Point 1 im fine with, 3 second light show and the sound as it hits is fine |

I agree with you regarding point 2 with the current squad mechanics. But let's face it, having 2 men squads is dumb. instead, you launching a game with 2 dudes should see you end up in a squad with 2 others random fellas. And the game would pick the squad leader among the dudes in the squad.
But even then, cool down would be a hell to deal with. This would still mean at least 4 strikes per team. 8 if you consider a cool down inferior to a the average time of a skirmish game. And that would be a lot. too much imo.
Let's face it, Current skirmish is closer to MAG's sabotage than domination. And you didnt have any strike in sabotage. The whole mecanic of dust wouldnt fit such pattern. But dont get me wrong, i liked MAG as strikes were never a kind of killstreak like the ones in Dust kinda are.
Regarding point 1) i tend to agree. But it should come with a higher damage output. WOuldnt change anything for infantry that still got OS but even a 3s warning could change a lot for HAVs if damage remain what they are now.

Okay, maybe I won't bump this one.
We have BUBBLE SHIELDS coming in the next build to help protect players from precision strikes. Honestly, I think that there should be more things to do other than just rain down on your opponents.
For instance, what if you had a choice of a bonus 10 clones instead? That could be more of a game changer right there. What about an adrenaline bonus for your squad, or the ability to call in a special vehicle? Shield boost for the MCC? |

So its all okay then?
Let me put a bubble over of my HAV which will only cover a small turret since the tank is massive and bigger than the entire team put togther standing next to each other
Giving everyone a free strike is a bad idea to begin with, hell we also have 1 man squads so you could have 16 strikes at the start
Also what makes you think that the bubble shield will stop an OB? if it does i want a larger one for my tank so i dont have to worry anymore |

First of all, unless you're sniping on a hill with a railgun, you have a good chance of evading an OB just by moving.
Secondly, here's the link for proof: http://dust514.com/news/blog/2013/03/equipment-is-your-friend/

Pretty handy when a ship is dropping bombs on your head from orbit or youGÇÖve been caught in the open by an enemy trying to melt you with a laser rifle."
Edit: I think that a direct hit will still destroy your shield, but that the shield will protect from the splash damage that is most often the source of damage that kills you during an OB. |

Better be a vehicle version then tbh
I can see AV guys using this and only popping out once ther FG or SL is locked on and me no chance to counter em |
