I've noticed recently that sometimes on my characters, everything will be going along smoothly, and all of a sudden, I'll be in the middle of a firefight and my guy will crouch and reload at the same time for no reason (I haven't pressed reload or crouch and the clip isn't empty). It seems to be worse on my heavy alt character than on my assault main one.
I had this same sort of bug a while ago where my guy was crouching, throwing grenades, and bringing up the map and/or weapon menu all at the exact same time. I was having similar problems in other games and decided it was the controller, so I got a new one and the problems disappeared. But now they're cropping up again and this controller I have is only like a month old and I haven't experienced this random action taking in other games.
It may be somehow related to the way the L-stick is moving or how hard it's being pressed in any direction, I'm not sure. |

The other possibility in DUST is the Sony Wireless Headset. Which interferes with the DS3 and will cause it to reset often. This is the cause of the Quitting Hacking Bug where one is pressing Circle but it acts like you stopped and then have to restart the hack.
If you have the Sony headset then try to reduce the interference, one way to do that is to leave the controller plugged in.
Also, do not plug another controller in even if it only to recharge. DUST menus really don't like that. |

Yes, I do have the Sony Wireless Headset and it used to cause me problems until I manually switched the channel for the wireless internet connection and now it seems to interfere less. There might be some merit to your suspicion, however, since I've been getting that hack-reset thing too lately.
I'll try playing without the headset on today and report back here. |

Sounds to me like this is the problem with the Dualshock3 controller's internal design.
The connection between the controller's PCB and the buttons is a little ribbon cable that is simply held against the board by a piece of foam. It gets squished and no longer applies good pressure to the contacts, and the thing starts sending bogus signals when that connection gets jostled, like when you press [L3] or [R3], or grip the controller tightly, or stuff like that. As time goes, the problem will get worse and worse. I had one that merely _picking_up_ the controller would cause all sorts of garbage button presses to be sent. I did what the guy in the video linked below shows, and it's now good as new.
It's pretty easy to fix. All you need is a small philips screwdriver, some electrical tape or something to back up the little foam bit that's behind the whole problem, and a few minutes of your time.
Check out this youtube video: http://youtu.be/7cnXHaHw1qA There are at least a few others out there that address the same issue, and this guy's one isn't super-sharp video, but it's short, and he describes what he's doing fairly clearly.
I hope this helps. Good luck! |

I didn't really get a chance to test the fix involving the wireless headset, so i'll have to do that today.
I might try that controller fix with my old one that was having some major issues, thanks for the tip. |

I tried not using the headset and it seemed a little better, but there were still some problems, so it may have just been a coincidence.
Then I tried the controller fix mentioned above and so far it's worked great. I haven't had one problem yet with the old controller that used to screw up every couple minutes. Thanks for the help guys.
Problem fixed and not a bug with Dust. |

Only confirming this is a PS3 controller issue. I dumped my DualShock for a Fusion (however you spell it). I been happily playing for months now. |
