I find the key to success in DUST and almost all FPS is to not fight a fair fight. Never fight someone who knows where you are, at least not without an advantage. Guys who go like 30-2 as infantry arent doing so in a series of 1on1 fair fights. They are picking their battles, flanking the enemy and killing folks who they have an upper hand on.
The ability to aim and shoot doesnt have the same correlation to success as youd expect, its needed, and it helps as you get better, but situational awareness and ability to pick out targets and stay alive is far far more important.
Though getting better at the actual twitch aiming aspects will help you survive and prosper when the situation doesnt allow you to "plan" your way to success. |

To be fair, this game has some mechanical issues which make aiming a bit annoying. For example, ever be sniping, and be like a centimeter off of the enemies head, so you nudge up a bit, but then nothing happens, so you nudge a bit more, and then you aim above their head? The dead zone for aim is too much, and it makes it hard to make precise aim adjustments compared to other games.
Tricks that other FPS games allow (quick scoping, swipe scoping etc.) dont work in this because the sticky aim isnt as prevelant. I think the reason some console FPS players avoid saying "learn to aim better" as advice is because compared to typical FPS games, the aiming in this sort of sucks. HALO, BF3, COD (even niche competitive games like Hybrid) all have much smoother, tighter aiming mechanics.
I found, going into DUST, cocky from my skills a those games, it took a while to learn how to actually play DUST. Aiming is fine and dandy, but even if you can aim perfectly, you will get absolutely destroyed if you arent playing smart and dont have good situational awareness. Meanwhile if you struggle to aim, but play smart, have good awareness, never get caught in the open, and always fight with an advantage, you will do well. |
