This is how i see it, so if it sits wrong with someone then explain why. If Dust 514 is going to be a real game then it needs to have the characteristics of a real one, i mean come on this isn't a browser game. The advantage already goes to the person who has been playing longer so why make it worse? I know this is still in beta and yall are probably funding the research projects from it, but when it goes to a official game you wouldn't need it. This game has the movement behind it to become something really great and a unique FPS. And its off to a great start, a bit of a learning cliff but it is awesome. I just dont think that once the game is launched officially that Aurum needs to be there. |

Technically, when the marketplace arrives (soontm), Aurum disappears. Everything should be available for ISK; I don't doubt people will try make easy ISK by selling boosters and the like.
Besides, these micro transactions are the only way CCP is currently making any money from DUST.
Edit: yeah mith beat me to it. |

No Aurum means no Dust 514. I don't know about you, but I like Dust 514. Besides, eventually AUR-only items will be sold on the marketplace by real players for ISK, and they won't be AUR-only items anymore, as Vyzion has stated. Why am I replying if everything I wanted to say is already said? No idea. I work in strange and mysterious ways sometimes. |

The game will be completely free for anyone to play, how else is CCP suppose to make money from it? Your point about "real games" not doing this is completely incorrect, microtransaction is very big now with big titles like Planetside 2, Blacklight Retribution, and Hawken. |

Wow, so then, how does CCP make the money they need to support and improve the game? Basically, just so you know, the whole reason this game exists is to sell Aurum.
This idea seems kinda...naive to put it mildly |

It worked pretty good for mass effect 3 also. I buy aur stuff and believe me its nothing really special. If it was proto suits id understand. ccp let me get the best gear with my aurum.. oh wait that would make it pay to win. |

It is funny that the OP mentions how time in-game is already enough of an advantage, that AUR items don't need to make the imbalance even greater...
...but they do exactly the opposite. You can pay real money to get higher level tech than your character can currently use in terms of SP. An example, you buy those new Gunlogi/Madrugar HAVs for 300 AUR or you train Vehicle skills until you can use Cal/Gal HAV 1...and then buy the regular Gunlogi/Madrugar HAVs for ISK.
This allows a person who has not been playing as long as a more skilled vehicle user to bust out a better than militia grade tank.
The AUR system works great, imo. I, personally, haven't spent a dime on Dust. If I get whalloped by a guy using a quasi Proto AUR item because I'm too cheap to pay the money he did...then I can either wait until I have the SP and by the ISK Proto item...or STFU.
The microtransactions are the plan to fund the continued development of this game. They aren't going anywhere and they don't need to go anywhere. |

I think Aur is very balanced, a lot better than the weapons. Anyone can beat anyone, regardless of whether they used real money or not. When it all boils down, all that really matters is skill and a little bit of luck. |

I disagree.
AURUM has been around since 2011 in Eve Online and so far it hasn't caused any problems. Besides, once the Dust economy starts rolling with players controlling almost 95% of it, you can expect to see players use the AURUM to purchase UVTs and Boosters so that they can sell the items for ISK to other players who have tons of ISK but no money. It's just like the PLEX system in Eve. Both parties in the transaction win. This is what AURUM is designed to do. |

How about you quit your Job or Career and see how it goes... CCP does not make anything for free(truly for free) If you want a place where everyone is on the same level, thats not how its going to be or will it be if you take away Aurum. I hope Aurum is here to stay.... Just like Plex. If anything Aurum gives new players a chance to get ahead hence "DO MORE FASTER". I would also argue that its not PAY-TO-WIN. Its a beautiful thing. |

All Aurum gives you is a slight shortcut in terms of time spent in the game.
Nothing more. You just get things earlier than you otherwise would.
Booster? You get more SP. There isn't a hard cap preventing someone else from getting just as much SP as you by playing more often or being around for longer.
BPO? They're mostly Militia gear, Standard at best, you can save up some ISK and get exactly the same gear for minimal extra time spent in the game. Half the gear is available on Starter Fits for free even without paying AUR to get it.
Non-BPO items? A handful of these - including the AUR vehicles - have slightly better fitting stats than Standard gear. You can get lower PG/CPU cost, or higher PG/CPU capacity by purchasing the AUR version of something in a few cases. Those need tweaking, but CCP have already done exactly that with many items where this issue has been pointed out. If you can literally create a better fitting by using the AUR gear than you can without, there's a problem. But for the most part, that doesn't happen, and where CCP have had such situations pointed out to them, they generally end up changing it so the AUR gear is no longer an advantage.
So what DO you get with the non-BPO items? Early access. You can purchase and use items that are a step above what your character is actually skilled into. That's all. Prototype AUR gear only needs Advanced-level skills to use. |
