Dust514 has a steep learning curve compared to modern shooters. Simply telling new players to "git gud scrub" is counter-intuitive to what we need, more players. As such, I'd like to suggest a gamemode in which only militia gear is allowable.
This game mode would have less payout ISK and SP wise but would help new players get acclimatized to the game without risk of getting utterly devastated by upper tier players running proto fits.

You know, I would simply play that mode to feel good about myself. I'll fly militia dropships and the enemies won't know how to deal with me and I'd just flatten the poor guys all day long.
Not to mention rocking a militia AR fit and using my superior SP levels to get the jump on the newbies. |

I think playing with the big boys makes you a better player!
Plus I think when PC and FW comes out the more advanced players will be busy with that leaving pubs relatively safe. |

I was thinking this as well, but I don't think the less payout is necessary. Rather a max sp to participate. Ie only players with less than 2 or 2.5 mil sp could participate... |

good point ive been thinking myself this games needs some special game modes for new players , the militia mode is a good idea
my other ideas:
rookie mode - a game mode limited by total SP of the player , only people below the limit could join
no squad mode - only lone players (which new players usually are) would be allowed to join |

Then people would be even less inclined to use weapons and equipment that don't have militia variants. |

Militia mode is sound.keep isk and sp payouts the same and instead implement some sort of ceiling. If a player reaches a certain lifetime sp, let's say 1.5 million, no further sp or isk (maybe a little isk) would be rewarded in that mode, forcing people to eventually merge in with the big boys. As for k/d stat, make it not count for this mode, or make it not count when you reach a certain number of kills. |

So what? Is bare bones to dominate game mode in Call of duty? Nope, people will naturally want better gear and will move at their own pace. |

This is a lie. You don't get better getting stomped on, you just learn to avoid them/hide at the edges of the map until the match is over. |

Don't baby the FPS crowd. They should be use to doing this learning curve in every other FPS out there. Eventually we will have PvE and that is where new players will learn the game. Before that, its wasted dev time on a system that won't work near as good as the PvE they already have planned.
P.S. This belongs in the feedback forums. |

I'm pretty sure the devs are designing a game that they hope will provide some revenue. an all militia gear room means nobody in there will ever spend any AUR. you might get this to fly if after a trial period it is inaccessible but I doubt you could keep it full enough consistently under that condition.
It may be a good idea on paper and your heart is in the right place but I pray they don't implement the idea.

Kudos to the two posters above me. They are correct. A militia only mode is a bad idea. Some kind of training would be good though. |

Oh sure, PVE helps you learn the controls, but beating Arcade Mode on "Very Hard" in Tekken hasn't made me any better against other players. The same was true for Dark Souls, Uncharted, or any other game with singleplayer and multiplayer ever. |

I had a brilliant idea! *Generic Shooter Mode*, militia gear only and skills have no effect, this way CCP can attract more CoD people :D |

Having a "noob" mode would be a bad idea. It doesn't benefit anything. It doesn't matter what sort of skill level a person has, if the teams are unbalanced then you will get destroyed anyway. If you can't compete with the rest of the gaming community then you shouldn't be playing the game. That goes for any game ever made. If you're going to play something against other people, then you need to face the fact that there is always going to be someone better.
Now, a training mode I can definitely agree on. It would be nice to maybe have a small area where we can test out different equipment and stuff without having to jump into battle and try to learn as you're being shot. I haven't really played with the vehicles yet but I've been wanting to. Only downside is that it's a bit tough to figure out the controls and get used to things when you're expected to help out with the fight and not goof around in the corner....as bad as that sounds =P |

Noob mode? no thanks. A bit of a lengthy tutorial that is borderline mandatory though? One that just so happens to award a modest amount of SP for completion maybe?
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea in the future as more stuff gets added on. |

I've never understood why people so strongly oppose modes that they themselves would have no interest in. What exactly is the problem with a militia only mode? Aside from noobs being able escape the grasp of the hungry protobears. |

I think this would be a good reason to have a militia only mode: "testing". Seriously, Militia gear is thereso that new players can test equipment before they decide to invest in it, but a new player going up against people in Proto gear isn't exactly going to get accurate results of a weapon's capabilities other than "militia gear sucks", except shotguns, shotguns are beast yo! |
