C130s are not out of date, its by far one of the more robust designs, they keep building new ones with newer bells and whistles. As Arizona said they're probably the Js variants with the glass cockpits, newer electronics, the scimitar like 6 pros instead of the 4 paddle boat ones. It wouldn't surprise me if a K variant is being made.
Similar to F-18 Ultra Hornet. Which solves the problem of How do I buy F-35 but not buy an F-35 according to congress?
Right now they're trying to force the air force to drop both F-15 and F-16s. |

The K variant already exists, it's basically the C130H but made for the RAF ('cause we get our own letters apparently), and is therefore (somewhat confusingly) older.
