My last 5 games of DUST. All Ambush - probably the most "repetitive" game mode since the only objective is "kill all the things" without even installation rain to break up the monotony of killing and dying.
1. Spawn as a Shotgun Scout with an Uplink, climb onto a nearby roof, drop the Uplink, then hold position while my team spawns in as they get gradually killed off at ground level. After picking up a Sniper and a Laser guy on the Uplink, a smart enemy notices where the most effective players are on my team, and climbs up.... only to get Shotgunned off the side of the roof. I then realise they've claimed another high point and are trying to counter-snipe - our guys are suppressing, but not able to get kills. I sneaky-sneaky my way across the battlefield while the enemy snipers are distracted, and get into the cover they plan to use to survive our Laser and Sniper fire. Two Shotgun Blasts later, and the enemy's sniper nest is cleared. Unfortunately, while I was absent, a couple of guys got gunned down by an AR guy who made it to my roof. I don't head back though, because he's already been killed, and the victims have spawned on my Uplink again. I move on to the next rooftop where the enemy is trying to secure their own high ground advantage, drop an Uplink before revealing my location, and once again go nuts with my Shotgun. I get 3 kills this time, but finally go down. I spawn on my uplink, as an Assault this time - Shotgunner again, finish clearing the roof as my teammates arrive, then deploy a pair of Nanohives to keep the new roof well-stocked.
I then move out, dropping to ground level to clear infantry as they're getting too close to be effectively hit by our rooftop forces. When I die, I switch into another Shotgun Scout, but this time with a Repair Tool - I noticed there was an organised friendly squad sticking together, but while they were holding up well, they didn't appear to have a Repair Tool or anyone with Armour Repairers. So I show up, and save their Logi guy a few revives, freeing him up to more consistently keep shooting people.
2. Same map, but this time, I bring a Logi fitting to start with - again with Uplinks, but this time backed up by Nanohives. I set up a good high-ground position for my team, and move on. My AR isn't my preferred weapon, but I help my teammates with supporting fire until an enemy tank shows up. And makes go "splat" quite emphatically.
I noticed it was a Madrugar, but also that we had a Forge Gunner on the rooftop I set up earlier. I spawn there with a Swarm Launcher, and together we make a good 2-man AV team. The Forge lands the final hit, but I collect an assist for my efforts, and I get a kill while he gets the assist when an enemy makes it onto our roof. The enemy team then brings a Sagaris, and we just can't hit hard enough to control it, but it only earns a handful of kills, so our team manages to control the match.
3. Not a single squad on my team, while the enemy team has several organised squads. It's Manus Peak this time, and I get to be the "lucky" one who spawns alone, surrounded by the entire enemy team. I have a Shotgun, and they seem as surprised as me, giving me a chance to take one down before getting brutally murdered. Before my screen fades out, I hear the sound of an injector being used on the guy I killed.
My team is sorting themselves out, and has an Uplink, so I spawn with Nanohives and a Repair Tool on a Skinweave Logi. I set up one Nanohive near a couple of Snipers who are doing well, and find a Heavy who's about to rush the enemy position. I follow behind with my Repair Tool, occasionally pulling my SMG for supporting fire. It's then we see the enemy team dropping 3 LAVs behind their frontline - but we've just wiped out their front lines, and are in position to rip into the people witing for the LAVs to land, clearing them out then hijacking a pair of the LAVs. I promptly get blown up by an AV Grenade as I'm about to run someone over, but spawn back in as a Logi, and stay back to support the team again.
4. Right at the beginning of the match, I spawn with my Skinweave Logi fitting, but this time, I spend basically the entire game being dedicated Logi support for a Madrugar, while also patching up and providing resupply for teammates in the area. I don't get many points, but I also go without a single death, and receive a friendly "thank you" mail from the tank driver.
5. Another tank match, but this time, I'm IN it, gunning people down with a Blaster turret.
Lets compare this to 5 games in a row in Battlefield:
1. Every tank handles the same, every helicopter handles the same, every jet handles the same, all the weapons feel like the same AR with slight damage and RoF tweaks. 2. It may as well have been the first match again. 3. I quit halfway through because I'm bored and I suck at battlefield so it feels horribly repetitive.
How about CoD?
1. I get through almost halfway through the first game, and am already finding it too boring and repetitive to reach a second game. It's not because I suck, it's because the game actually IS boring and repetitive.
Brink?
1. Parkour, shooting, parkour, shooting, parkour while shooting, shooting, parkour 2. Parkour, shooting, parkour, shooting, parkour while shooting, shooting, parkour 3. Parkour, shooting, parkour, shooting, parkour while shooting, shooting, parkour 4. Parkour, shooting, parkour, shooting, parkour while shooting, shooting, parkour 5. Parkour, shooting, parkour, shooting, parkour while shooting, shooting, parkour
Yep. DUST is a repetitive and boring shooter. |
