Like we have in EVE, thermal, kinetic, EMP and explosive. And you have to put modules to reduce the damage you take from those damage types. I know we have it in vehicles, though without the TKEX system, instead only having a flat damage reduction.
Will that ever happen with Dust? Would like to see more variation on dropsuit fits, instead of "MOAR SHIELD EXTENDERS! MOAR DAMAGE MODS! MOAR! MOAR!" |

Likely not in the same way eve does it.
They're likely sticking to the simpler armor vs shields concept and thus only going to have armor or shield hardeners. We will find out when thing get more faction-ed out. |

Hopefully we'll see damage types come in as an ammo customization factor. |

Vehicles have resistance modules, I don't see why it wouldn't happen for infantry. I'm sure we are going to see ALOT of modules over the years. |

I think one of the harder things on the battlefield is that the kind of intel you could get to effectively choose your suits isn't readily apparent. How often are you aware of what more than 3-4 players are fielding at a time.
Unless! this is something that the active scanner did...was broadcast suit info in a sort of retreivable form, like show last known suit and its resists or something...? |

In EVE, you just try to have a balance of everything, as you rarely know what you will get. Though it could be a use for the active scanner. |

I'm hoping they do something because unlike EVE the movement penalty from armor plates is a deal breaker. The idea behind my armor tanked Dominix is to be able to survive sustained fire from the enemy long enough to kill them by repping my ship faster than they can damage it. Or at least fast enough that I have time to take them out.
That sort of thing won't work in an FPS because the focus has to be on avoiding damage, which of course you can't do if you can't move quickly. Armor hardeners would be a good option, but shields honestly don't need it. Besides, shield hardeners change the properties of the shield sufficiently that it would likely cause a player to show up on enemy scans constantly with no ability to hide. |

I think suit frames are too small to benefit from various damage type negators and i think they will stick to the weapon type dealing X type of damage.
In eve pvp its either blob vs blob, one vs one, blob vs one, one vs blob and killing blob and in Dust you constantly have 16 players vs you, idd rather have 66 more shields or 42% faster recharge then 25% resistance against a laser rifle.
A shootout also does not happen once ever 5 seconds on a small piece of space...
Woops everyone is fielding Assault rifles /Equips 75% - stacking penalty AR resist Build. Aww daaaaym they all swapped to lasers /Equips 75% vs lazers
NOOOOO they r all packing EM Weapons!!!! /Equips EMP suit /gets lazored to teh face with 256 HP EM shield suit...'Blip'
MOAR QQ on the Forums!!!
IT would be a nightmare
And dont start with Invulnerability Hardeners, ow cool leeets equip 4x Deadspace +50% Resistance to all damage types on mah suit! |

They should add resistances, but that would involve introducing a factor that renders the average joe FPS'r obsolete because he can't wrap his head around an elementary concept like math.
Wouldn't want to **** off the core audience, now.

We already have resistances. Some weapon are better for shield (laser), some for armor (HMG/SMG)
Here is nice topic about resistances. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=582948#post582948

Sadly, resistances wont make much of a difference when ~80% of the players are stuck on using a weapon that deals equal damage to shields and armor. It's a fair assumption that the majority of the community doesn't even know about EVE and could care less about weapon bonuses/resistances, and will focus on FOTM meta gaming nonsense, ignoring most of the different weapon types because that one level of skill in them won't make them a killing machine. But anyway, back to the point, hardeners and removing the movement penalty on plates (or an armor honeycombing skill) would definitely be a step in the right direction. Armor tanking in this game is a joke unless you're in a position where you don't have to think on your feet, like laser camping or sniping. And even both those roles ignore it too. |
