Here me my loyal followers and subjects, for i have an announcement to make.
My little worker ants have been hard at work for quite some time attempting to test the limits of the new OB tech we have among other things, this PSA is in direct relation to our work in that field and i have a recently declassified bit of information to share with you all.
I'm sure you've all heard rumors about an OB exploit, with people calling in multiple OB's in a single match one after the other without having the warpoints to preform such actions. I'm here to confirm that it was more than rumor. We at Immobile Infantry discovered an exploit in the way that orbital mechanics work and found a way to use it to our advantage. In fact, you can thank Eevil Dr, Sammus 420, Xaerael Kabiel and Dimpo Ar'Kacho directly as being the research team responsible for this wonderful discovery.
After a little testing and refining we were able to get out as many as 8 or 9 OB's in a public match with only 2500 war points due to a very simple mistake made in the way that WP's are calculated.
CCP Nullarbor has recently given me permission to share with you a recently top secret and classified video showing that it was possible and how we managed to do it.
So you can thank me and my corp personally for your extended downtime today, in actual fact, the whole thing originated from an idea that Xaerael had based on his previous antics of murdering blues which i can assure you all now is in the past. He is a reformed ant in the pursuit of science now!
The guys at CCP are also welcome to thank me for spoiling your weekend and having you batphoned into the office on saturday night by CCP SoxFour so the patch could be deployed first thing this week.
I'd personally like to thank Mr Kane Spero's escrow services for keeping a lid on this till now and allowing us to use his services to set up a controlled corp battle for further testing and refining and a big thank you to Starfire Revo (AKA @GimbleB) for recording the video and editing it down before and after this weeks episode of BotG.
You're all very welcome. I hope you enjoyed it and did something productive with your extra out of game time.

I will take credit for being the most efficient teamkiller in the demonstration. Do note that these were consensual and done in the privacy of our own match by consenting adults. I do not teamkill in public with unwilling participants. |

We still have a lot of testing to do to make sure they fixed it properly. So far it looks like they didn't take any shortcuts in preventing this from happening again. |

To be fair, if Mr Kane Spero had any idea how Grenades worked with fatsuits the video would have had a lot more OB's.
That was just mainly from one squad of 4 players. We'd have doubled it with 2 squads easily and possibly broke something if we got all 4 squads of goons doing that in the corp battle. |

We didn't really "use" it. We could have turned it on corp matches, or saved it for PC, or even petty and malicious destruction of expensive tanks, etc. Instead we reported it the moment we replicated it (bugs need to be duplicated to make sure they're not a fluke). Then we spent the weekend making sure there was no other ways to produce the effect.
The method really was quite obvious, though an easy oversight to make. And it wasn't found by accident, I added 1 and 1 together, and we tried the theory. To be honest, I didn't even think it would work, but it did.
It probably would have (I hope!) caused a rollback when PC hit, because the first to have stumbled on it would have dominated till it got fixed.
We have to remember, we're still in beta! We *should* be looking for stuff like this. It's our job as beta testers.
Please note, someone in another thread speculated this "sped up" the OB happening, and was upset they lost a 200k tank (impossible for that to be us, we never targeted tanks on purpose). In actual fact, our field testing only managed to produce 7 orbitals in non orchestrated matches, and I lost several VERY expensive tanks, which were instrumental to the process in getting the WP to kickstart the exploit. If anyone's mad they lost a fit during our field tests, trust me, I risked and lost a lot more in the process. None of the OBs were dropped until the end of the match, because that's how long it took to make them under a normal match environment.
