Being a veteran EVE player of 7 years, and being a part of the nullsec political landscape and seeing how evolved its metagame is, I can imagine how DUST will be in a few years and it will be glorious...
We will likely have teams of 64 or maybe 128 fighting in huge battlefields that span many square miles of in game landscape. Our battles will have finally been integrated into sovereign spaceholding in EVE as much as their battles determine. Each battle will matter not as much for the cost of the suits or the tanks or any of that, but because it will determine outcomes of wars fought over weeks or months.
We will have squad and team composition like we have fleet doctrines and compositions in EVE. Recon squads and logi squads supporting DPS squads and tank squads. Maybe even ewar will be a parts of the game as well. The most organized groups will be told to fit their suits exactly like the doctrine or they will be ridiculed when they die horribly and cause the team to lose. We will have exact plans and when they fail comms will be tense and uncomfortable. When they work we will be overly excited and told to shut up by Team Commanders that are still trying to make sure things go smoothly.
Spais will be a real thing just like in EVE and people will record comms or actively listen in on those comms and rebroadcast them to their own side.
I am imagining so much for this game and I cannot wait to see it come to fruition.
What do you think will happen to the DUST metagame down the line? |

You sir, just made me smile. This is what I am looking forward too.
Edit: As a veteran of EVE as well, I expect nothing less from a CCP game that is linked to EVE. |

as they should, they have created one of the very few games with true player created content.
I can only hope that when I start to make my own games that I can let the community handle so much of it, and that they enjoy doing so. that is the mark of an extremely well made game. |

I still remember a screenshot one of my friends showed me where a new player was complaining to a mod about being scammed. The answer was basically "LOL how did you fall for that?" |

Well first youd need a much better system to coordinate intra-squad than we currently have. But beyond that, GOD YES. That is what I am looking for.
However, I think you over-estimate the logistical side of DUST versus the individual play when you talk about doctrines and stuff. DUST, for all the complaints EVE players might have, has a lot more "game" to it than EVE and its "spreadsheet spaceships"
It wont be as easy to crunch numbers and determine who will win. Because of that individual skill having a big factor, you wont be able to just find optimal fittings and tell your crew what to run. I mean realistically, right now "the optimal" fit for anyone would primarily center around a scrmabler pistol headshotting everyone. But that isnt realistic for most, if any players abilities. |

Nah. This type of thing is what would ruin the fun of DUST. The game your describing already exists, and its called Planetside 2. WWIIONLINE also tried this. It works, sort of. But the reality of it is eventually a bunch of people go to sleep, and then a bunch of people dont, and the ones that dont win. You come back the next day and your 2 hour heroic stand to defend the base was meaningless cause they just took it when you went to bed.
Now, I do think you'll see "campaigns" lasting days, where corps invade distrct after district, absolutely tearing through the enemy corp, or fighting back, with clone transport to the front lines and alliances being brought in to help out.
But the individual "battles" will be similar to what we see now, hopefully on a bigger scale, and hopefully with a slightly more dynamic battlefield. But the confined battles of DUST is actually a strength compared to its "competitors" not a weakness. You get the sense you, as a player, can actually make a difference.
In PS2 or WWIIOnline, this just isnt the case. |

i'm torn between agreeing and disagreeing here. i want to say: yes, a guy who's a badass at run-and-gun is going to do alright no matter what. but i also know that CCP has a way of making this about mathematics.

I forsee Dust 514 having characteristics of other MMOs: 1. People will consider themselves as endgame professions and start new ones only to dig out their older pro fittings when an expansion comes out that requires them to. Otherwise pricey fittings will collect air particles. 2. Some gamers will be known as pro from their youtube videos and forum posts and camp chat channels with the many players expected to respect them though they will never get a chance to play with each other. 3. A gold for cash service will start up on websites. 4. Longer lasting players will eventually come across ingame macro users and through word of mouth accidentally end up promoting it through shared stories of experience. 5. Expansions will cause certain fittings to be so "last build" etc. and will keep us swaying back and forth. Everyone leaning to one fitting will keep balance conversation always on the table. 6. People will constantly make references to other games they are playing while casually keeping up with Dust514, or even become infatuated with what is coming next inferring that the current game mechanics seem "blah".
As a console game? 7. Dust will see the most people ever after the first 2 weeks of launch. Huge press like "Best MMO of the year" nominations will turn people on to it, but there is "Greatest Hits" version so that's about it for re-releasing it. 8. With a dedicated fan base some spin off will come out of it, like Gran Turismo Academy for example. 9. Someone will start a channel of comedy skits on youtube by filming the animations and adding voices over top. |

Fannomos.
1. Eve online has no end game. Dust 514 will also not feature such, we call them career changes. 2. See Politics and why MoH winners are not presidents. 3. With inter-player market trading of bought item to be sold for ingame isk will be over competitive with RMTers. 4. Already happened, and already been headed off. 5. Eve online never has tried to dis-relative previous items. Even if they do add more 'elite' items, they're generally more expensive and far far far harder to replace. Similar to current officer items. Right now everyone is loving all the tech 1 ships again, Tech 2 ships where so... last 10 expansions ago mostly? Either way tech 2 is getting rebuffed again soon enough. Tech 1 battleships are getting the last bits of polish this go around. 6. The problem with that that dust 514 WILL catch up to every one's else features and the games that have to constantly make sequel will have to constantly keep making new content to try to keep up. I mean how long until call of duty add in land control. 7. Defiance was supposed to be doing that... oh wait people are leaving in droves. 8. There may be copy cats, EA is bound to make one as usual. 9. Well... it happened in eve online.... http://www.clearskiesthemovie.com/ |

Have been doing some research and hopefully we mercenaries will be able to take over stations and other structures, conquer districts to reset timers, or otherwise give our alliances an advantage, and really take the monotony and grind out of Sov warfare for all involved.
