Surely there's a way around having to be in control of my mercenary to talk? I'd love it if I could speak back to my squad mates during loading screens, or at least when I'm dead/spawning in at the beginning. It's bloody awkward when I'm talking, and suddenly the loading screen cuts me off but they don't realise I have PTT on, and listening to them go
"Hello?"
"You listening?"
"You there?"
"Er, can you hear me?"
Sure, it's funny the first few times, but eventually it really gets annoying. Also, in-game, when I die, I try explain my situation but suddenly I bleed out and I'm cut off, leaving my friends asking
"Did you say B or D?"
"Which hill?"
"Where is the tank?"
"Who killed you?"
"How many of them are there?"
which I can't answer for at least 10-15 seconds as I respawn, and by that time my valuable information becomes obsolete.
I still prefer PTT anyway since I live in the noisiest household known to mankind, but improving it's functionality would be nice.

I can agree with you here if this truly does happen (not a user of PTT) it definitely needs fixing as since I run Logistics being able to pickup downed teammates is vital and know where they are is even more so because without the know where there is no logi pickup... I can already hear some people say well that is what the square button is for when you are down.... unfortunately that is not enough information really as 1 it does not give you the information of how far away you are from the person, 2 it doesn't give you the heads up of whether that person may be elevated or lower than you. or if that doesn't satisfy your reason as to why this doesn't need to be fixed then how about those 5 reds that just happen to be sitting on your body or around the corner waiting for the person's teammates to come running to revive him just as he finishes bleeding out |

PTT should be turned off during loading screen, death, and spawning. |

And I'm saying it should be able to be activated during loading screens, death and spawning. Or at the very least, during death and spawning. It's not so crucial during loading screens.

I have a fairly sensitive microphone, and I don't want everyone on my team or on my squad to hear the rest of my family going about their lives as I play DUST. I don't think my squad mates want to either. We play DUST to escape real life for a moment. |

then by your same reasoning those who have PTT turned off so they can always communicate should also lose the ability to talk to squad/teammates when they are down/respawning and loading to make it fair

I recommend getting a headset/mic with the ability to turn it off from the volume controls. I have the P11 which does this and it would solve your problem.
Of course a software side solution would be great as well. |
