So IGÇÖve been playing the game for a couple days and have yet to find any sort of viable class or loadout. It seems like no matter what I choose, my enemies take way too many bullets to kill, and I take way too few. And to start out, my friends are having this problem as well, and we're not particularly bad at console FPS games. You can check my BF3 stats if you want, (Matakage 1.6 KDR, and my friend Krisuke 2.7 KDR) so trust us when we say we're neither mechanically nor tactically bad at FPS games. I started out as a sentinel and wanted a heavy machine gun, but the range was too low, the movement speed was too slow, and the apparent armor bonuses didnGÇÖt seem to make a difference. I was dying in less than 2 seconds and my gun was only useful at approximately 30 meters or less.
The next thing I tried was artificer, hoping I could get some points by reviving comrades. The SMG, not surprisingly, was effective at even less of a range, and I was now dying within about 1 second of taking initial damage. I also tried using assault rifles, but again, both the range and damage was lacking.
Since my problem seemed to be consistently range and damage, I thought my only option would be a sniper. ItGÇÖs true that the sniper class can kill at a greater distance, but it seemed like every other class could out-range me regardless of the weapon they used. I was also getting killed even faster.
After watching videos and making a few more experimental builds, and dying in 9/10 face to face encounters with other players IGÇÖve come to this conclusion:
Everyone else has a better gun and more shields and armor than you.
And I understand this may be a design choice. ItGÇÖs not a level playing field GÇô veteran players with better stuff will do better than new players with worse stuff. However, the difference between the baseline/free/militia gear and the good stuff is pretty huge indeed. ThereGÇÖs nothing worse than having the tactical advantage on an enemy, emptying a clip into them, and then having them turn around and kill you in a fraction of the time it took you to empty that clip. So now IGÇÖm at the point where I want to keep playing and unlocking things, but I also want to enjoy the time I spend playing video games. Perhaps this is the better question:
Is there a way to progress further in this game without having to endure the tedious and frustrating task of actually playing it? |

Not sure what to say beyond get in the game and keep at it. the differences between the suits isn't all that much except for fully fitted proto-suits (all the complex mods....), and once you get into the first level above militia you should start to feel less squishy. By my second week of play I started to feel MUCH less squishy and started to be able to tank a couple rounds from even sniper rifles (assuming it wasn't a headshot).
Short term solution, jump into a heavy suit and run with the pack? Otherwise, get to work on core suit skills and grin and bear it.

Just wait, most of the information from the videos is to help mid- leveled players but still if you specialize you will get powerful quick. Also, be patient you will become stronger if you keep upgrading wisely, Pick one type of dropsuit and one or two weapons and keep leveling them up, if you want try experimenting with modules they will help you survive. If you haven't seen these videos you should watch them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtjpARe4mxs&list=PLf9aY0O5ldbI0GTEkyLDgWhpaoSDRSoEz |

Also, hold off on seriously dedicating SP to a single suit. It takes over 2 million SP to fully train any of the suit skills right now (logi, scout, assault, or heavy that is) and I for one don't think it's worth doing until after you get Field mechanic and shield boost at the very least (and then the CPU/PG skill and of course weapon skill.... and a few other things.... it's going to take me until well into fall before I actually get around to adv or proto suits) |

I personally used militia gear for a while, about a month. I didn;t really spend that much SP till I found out what I really wanted to spec into. Use the militia gear to find your niche. Also in the beginning try to stay with a group. Follow people around and see what they use, do, like. This game takes time to find your niche. Also I have noticed a hole in the anti-vehicle positions. If you dedicate to this you could rack up some good SP aand ISk. ALso you might not always be used, if there are not many vehicles on the board, but when they are you would be invaluable. |

Alright
Best starting class is arbiter. This game is also known as "Shield514" Arbiter class gives you the best boost to your shield skills.
> get complex shield extenders > type-II assault > get a GEK > upgrade light weapon sharpshooter
Sharpshooter is in your skills, you just have to hit L2 or R2 to see all of them, even the ones you don't have skill books unlocked for or something like that. You don't need to use a GEK, but getting that lvl of AR skill helps. Basic rifle + MLT suit usually work fine.
Don't get the CPU/PG upgrades until you need them. Sure, you'll need them eventually, but why suck now when you can be decent now and upgrade as you go?
Best of all, you can waste you SP on anything you want because there's a SP refund coming up in March. CCP is changing the skill system, so we get all of our SP back when they do. |

Thanks a lot for the info! You've renewed my morale and I think I've got a better idea of where I should develop my skills. |

Find a corp that will run a squad with you - stick with your squad - your deaths should go down tremendously and you should be able to accrue more SP to improve your character. |

You just need to get used to a slightly longer range as a sniper.
Or perhaps you should try being a heavy or assault with a laser rifle. |

Spec up the range increases for light or heavy weapon sharpshooter (25% increase at lvl 5) and then the proficiencies (another 15% at lvl 5). Weapons skill gives 10% increase at level 5 (equal to a complex damage mod) pick a weapon and learn all its traits. |

The Gek is a great gun and good for improving your morale because it feels like the first AR that doesn't suck horribly. I find its fairly expensive for a newbie though.
I found myself having a good time with the Burst AR, its underpowered and harder to get kills with, but it has a nice scope and limited recoil which allows you to practice your accuracy and tactics. Another good gun is the Laser Rifle, its kinda expensive but not as much as the GEK I believe, its good for training aim, but its really bad at close range.
Then just getting the assault suit that has 2 highs and 2 lows, dropping shield extenders in the highs and shield delays in the lows (Can't remember the name off hand but 10% reduction in shield recharge delay). You can use the militia versions to get started off with. |
