I'm still seeing multiple people at the bottom of the scoreboard with scores like 0-8, 0-11, 2-8 etc...
Seriously I was in a game off OMS and the scores went something like this:
Winner:
1. 25-2 2. 10-5 3. 9-3 4. 5-0 5. 5-2 6. 5-6 7. 5-5 8.4-3 9. 3-1 10. 3-5 11. 2-5 12. 1-1 13. 1-4 14. 1-6 15. 0-6 16. 0-0
Looser:
1. 26-4 (Me ) 2. 11-5 3. 7-5 4. 5-3 5. 5-2 6. 4-7 7. 2-5 8. 2-3 9. 2-1 10. 1-5 11. 1-11 12. 0-1 13. 0-8 14. 0-6 15. 0-6 16. 0-0
I know these aren't the exact figures (They're still roughly what the score was) but seriously look at the skill gap.
Can we please get better tutorials in uprising explaining: How to get out of militia gear
Why to use cover
Maybe give them a rundown of what each weapon does instead of:
"Each clone is given a militia assault rifle, here you go put it on your clone, well done you completed the tutorial have some bacon. Now go get slaughtered."
For example just say stuff like " These flashing boxes are the low slots you can add stuff like armour plates that add more armour to your clone or armour repair modules that slowly repair your clones armour over time", "These flashing boxes are high slots...... etc etc etc...
Some players don't even bother looking at the tutorials, instead of a message appear when you first start saying "Would you like to know more?" because nearly every console gamer just thinks "**** that, I wanna kill stuff (Selects No)"
Why not have it saying "WARNING: It is strongly recommended you do a couple short tutorials on some aspects of this game. Would you like to continue with these?"
Please, CCP educate the players properly when they start. |

In Uprising, the New Player experience is said to be vastly improved. And joining a corp is the biggest step to educating the average blue dot.
I think Dust University should be made into a corp that newbs are instantly put into. |

Almost agree, But we would be happy for corps that have blueberrys that want to join, but arn't quite on their level, simply send them to us. We are here to educate them and send them out to the corps to help them TAKE OVER THE WORLD. |

It's not CCP's fault, and there's not much CCP can do. Those are just bad players.
Seriously, the starting fits are not bad at all. |

You'll fast lose your playerbase if you hold that opinion, besides nobody is making them get better at the game, the games only educating the players on how to play it. |

When I first started playing this game I had no idea how to play the game, I had no idea how to access the chats because I hadn't been asked to set my games resolution to the right size, I had no idea how to make a fitm etc...
I nearly deleted the game after the first hour because it was all so confusing and I didn't have any proper guidance, I only tried it again because I was seriously bored. Then I started to get the hang of it, if I hadn't been so bored I wouldn't be on this forum. |

Even Eve Online has starting tutorials. I think its easy enough for Dust 514 to have the same.
There is nothing "wrong" with helping new players as a lot of people on the forums think. |

I know a number of console FPS players, and a good number of them have tried DUST, but not liked it.
It wasn't because they were getting their ass kicked. It was because they shot people, got red hit markers, but did no damage.
When CCP fixes this, they'll get a bunch of good players. There's not really a "new" or interesting FPS game that's coming out other than DUST514 that we know of. I know it's going to take a bit (peeps are getting bored and want new content) and it's probably not easy, but that's the biggest thing.
"New player experience" is trying the game and seeing if you like it or not. Getting your ass kicked happens in every FPS game at the start. You learn maps and junk. |

And seriously, just start a day 1 character and roll around as Assault - Frontline for a day or two. You'll be totally fine except for a guy or two rolling in full proto in a pub.
INTFH should be your new motto, not the stupid adapt or htfu crap.

If CCP does decide to do new player tutorials, they should be like other FPS games.
Here's some terrain. Run, crouch, strafe, sprint, jump and climb.
Here's a gun. Shoot, reload, secondary, equipment and throw a grenade.
Look! Your friend was a moron and got shot in the face for being one. Kill the guy who shot him, stab your friend in the face, watch him run into five bad guys, kill them and stab your friend again.
You can give them practice too- set up a firing range and let them test out new weapons.
Some quick mod and market stuff can come next, along with social.
It's FPSMMO. Get the FPS part in first! |

You should have put that first! xD
+1 for your feedback ^_^
So how would you approach it? Would the here's a gun, go shoot something approach work for you?
I think locking mods and skills to start would be awesome. Get new players playing the game.
Would love to see more from starting guys. I think the old players get jaded or link it to their EVE Online experience. |

The problem isn't the tutorials.. it's that everyone just ignores them.
If you can't figure out what's up after seeing the Skills, Market, and Fitting windows.... GG
All the info is right there between those windows if you take the time to press Triangle once in awhile. The forums and corp can help, but really the game can only throw so much optional windows at you to pass up.
edit:
Think about it. When's the last to you Read the Manual to anything? RTFM ever been a term you had to tell someone? The entire merc room is one big text based tutorial... the only way to make it more obvious is to restrict a player from joining a real match without completing some lame simplified test match against something. |

I wouldn't ask for a manual. The last thing a new player wants to do is read a block of text. Either video, or create training missions.
Honestly though no one knows what is coming on the 6th (not exactly anyway) so we might as well see what they have. |

Like playing a first person shooter? Before I even heard the term "first person shooter"?
Example: Myself. I read the manual to Starsiege: Tribes since I felt like I was thrust into gameplay without being told all of the controls or what to do. But once I read the manual, I learned the different controls, I started to be able to kill people and with that, the drive to learn how to become better at it.
XXfootnoteXX wrote:I wouldn't ask for a manual. The last thing a new player wants to do is read a block of text. Either video, or create training missions. Well don't worry! CCP has been nice enough to post and sticky a manual they made for DUST 514! They even made sure it wasn't a wall of text by including pictures and descriptions to explain things. Which you read before posting in this thread, right?
RIGHT?
But anyways, yes, let's see what they have done May 6th. |

I feel the help is there for people who ask for it. A lot of new players don't ask for the help they need and you can't help someone who doesn't ask for it. Anytime someone posses a question in Local chat I always answer or other do. Many corps have training schools for there corps. There is even Dust University that is kind of a non profit school for dust. A tutorial can teach you what buttons to push or how to access a menu, many of the needed knowledge of dust isn't what button to press, but how to press it and when. Not how to allocate skill points but what to allocate and when and what that will give you.
I always felt one of the best solutions would be a HELP channel in addition to the local chat channel. I would be in that channel all the time. As I feel many would also. |

Dark Souls is regarded as one of the most frustrating games on the market by a lot of people because it has a stupidly high difficulty curve. They show you how to preform the basic moves and how to switch between abilities and then you're basically on your own.
If you misstep once in a bossfight, then that usually takes you down to 1/3 health (depending on how tanky you make your character). Even screwing up while fighting the normal enemies can and will get you killed. And then you also have to worry about mimics.
Going into a boss battle with the best gear you can get your hands on is almost a must, and even then they will probably end up 2-3 shotting you if you fail to dodge their attacks. |

Once you figure out how to access chat, which one is local chat, and what that means. Also assuming you're not the kind of personality where you'd rather not admit publicly to having no clue what's going on with the game because you're afraid you'll "look stupid" by asking "stupid questions" that "should be obvious" - and especialy bad when you run into the rare idiot who actually claims the usual new player questions are stupid and obvious when the game doesn't give you the necessary answers.
A basic tutorial would be well worth having, imo. |
