TLDR: Forge guns to apply a PUSH force to do damage so the DS take less damage from railguns/forge by being pushed away in the air and are only effectivly taken down by swarms.
Hi, I am a long time DS pilot and I lived sevral good and bad DS rebalances.. I just had this awesome idea to rebalance AV against dropship to a reasonable ..balance..
The current build situation
Swarms are balanced in the way that you have to fly low and near possible cover to break the lock on of the missiles or make them crash in a structure instead of you. I find it a good balance that reward the pilot skills and map awareness to survive.
Forge guns and railgun instalations are on the other hand instant damage that cannot be avoided by desing. This make them the perfect dropship pop-corn maker.. BOOM. And to anny form of AV they should be a way to avoid it.. tank sustain Forge/railgun fire by tanking and I dont want a flying tank no thx..
THE SOLUTION To have some kind of trade off against these instant damage weapons I sugest that these (forge/railguns) where to apply some kind of PUSH/pressure damage. So a ground vehicle would take the same damage they are right now.. the PUSH damage would ba absorbed because the HAV/LAV cannot swing away. (this could flip over LAV instead of poping them too..)
The balance of receiving push from a forge/railgun in dropship Dropship would be pushed sevral meters away when receiving such firepower and taking less damage then a heavy ground vehicle would do. It still make it possible to take down a dropship that is flying low / near structures (because of swarms ) even with the future rebalance of the explosive paint..(nick name for the current unbelivable colision damage right now..) a colision at high speed with a structure should still be a pretty big damage.
I literally just had that idea 10 min agos so feel free to improuve it with your sugestions
P.S. my first language is french so sorry for the grammar nazies.. |

I kind of like the idea. It would also have forge gunners trying to catch a dropship next to some obstacle so they could nail it and make it hit the obstacle for additional damage. TACTICS! |

+1 As an AV guy, I have yet to kill a DropShip. Mostly due to them crashing themselves after my first shot |

As a career heavy, I feel sorry for dropship pilots more than anybody else in the whole game right now. A little tap and they go spinning like a top. A couple volleys from anything and they go down. I know it's not particularly realistic, but balance-wise they should be able to tank as much as an HAV, since they're up in the air and don't have much opportunity to find cover, and they also require more than one person to operate effectively. |

blowing up a dropship is pretty fun. I love watching all the rats bail as the flaming wreck plummets to earth.
The best part is seeing if you get an +50s.
FWIW- a team of forge gunners could totally use this. They could time their hits so the pushes meld together and fling you to a galaxy far far away. |

not only big tall structures can provide me cover..
tell me I am crazzy but to avoid swarms I fly so low that people can get in my dropship by jumping |

I'm ok with the idea of a push damage on Drop Ships, but don't change LAVs. Nuking an LAV is the best part to running a forge gun. |

Should be possible to simply have your shot travel through the DropShip (you can already take out the gunners, without hurthing the aircraft). Would suggest that if you hit it on the sides at the compartment, damage should be very minimal to reflect there being no critical components.
secondly, they are dropships, not gunships - They should only be in the air when transporting troops, or waiting to pick up some merc from a hot zone.
TonYtigr wrote:Pretty nice idea Judy and it even make sense with laws of physics. Small object going at 7km/sec would simply punch a hole in the aircraft's walls - practically no force would translate to movement of the vehicle. |

This is not the first time I read this one.. Are you guys fly a kind of dropship that has no shields?
I do agree that a crazy fast projectile from a forge gun would hit hard on a DS that has no shield.
But for the ones that do have shield. it should well shield us Protecting us against projectiles weapons by deflecting the inertia momentum of the mass of the flying ammunition coming at us into a counter reaction from that impact pushing the vessel away.
Again I totally agree that a DS without shields.. I would LOVE to see holes in my ship come and get me |

It would make more sense for the missiles to displace the dropship because of the explosion. Of course, if for some reason the dropship's armor is built to prevent the slug from going through the sides of the ship, it would have to absorb the impact somehow. |
