To keep the mystery, because they're too overpowered or maybe because they are mostly all dead? |

They don't get directly involved in conflict with the other factions. Essentially, they are so powerful (and so few in number) that they prefer to work behind the scenes and stay aloof. |

According to the novel Templar One, the Sleepers are an offshoot of the Jove. They went into hibernation to stall the progress of the Jovian Disease and their minds live in a virtual reality. |

Let me see if I can explain this. The Jovians are the creators of the capsuleer tech in Eve which was the basis for the tech we use as Immortal mercs. The Jovian are 3-4 feet tall with large misshapen heads(think stereotypical alien), and after several years of doing genetic experimentation on themselves has given them a life span 30-40 years. |

You can fit "Jovian fusion powerplant" (or something like that) module onto your LAV to increase speed and torque... |

What I've seen it as, to break it down into another trope, the Jove are the equivalent of Marvel's Watchers, except uber short. They are incredibly advanced, but have a "strict" (it bends a bit) rule of non-interference in mortal affairs.
The Sleepers would be closer to the Celestials. Uber powerful, and not so friendly if you interfere with them, but you can get some crazy loot if you manage to defeat their guard-dogs (Drones).
To any EVE Lore masters, If I've completely butchered the intent, let me know. This was the first thing that came to mind. |

Joves are CCP's GM toys and are probably designed to ROFLstomp any corp whoever managed to dominate the entire Null Sec galaxy. Since thats never happened we have never really seen them. |

Jovians are basically the best way of handwaving devhax.
They're more than JUST that, as proven by the other posts in the thread, but that's a big part of why the Jovians were written into the story.
Having an insular and secretive super-advanced beyond-everyone-else non-playable race means the devs can go out in their ships to keep the rumour mills flowing while not having to worry too much about actually getting hurt. |

The Jovians invented the capsuleer technology, but it was the Four Races that married cloning to it.

The technology used for dropclones is Sleeper technology. It is WAY more advanced, being only an implant and not a whole machine that you have to climb into.

I immediately thought of the sections of Black Ops, and Black Ops 2 where you had to fight the programming, and avoid killing someone by mashing Square. Not so much fun in my opinion. Interesting idea, boring implementation.
If it was created as a puzzle system though.... you have to solve a puzzle to "escape" the suicidal grip. That I would play. Especially if it was formatted in that creepy hallucination blood trail mind-game from the first Max Payne. That could mesh with the lore as well. |
