With Swarm Mode soon coming, I'd like to propose an alternate.
Campaign-style Missions.
I'm sure many people have played FPS games, and seen the campaign missions with variable objectives, things like, kill this guy, or extract this guy are nice, but can involve a lot to do it.
I'll post a brief summary of a possible Campaign Mission here to accentuate my point:
Raa IV - District 7: Amarrian Slave Outpost
Primary Mission: Destroy Base's Reactor Core (Shaped Charges Provided) Secondary Objectives: Free Captured Slaves (Vitoc Antidote Provided)
You (and your squad) are inserted via orbital drop outside the bases perimeter. At the moment, you are undetected. You scan the defences, inclusive of a heavy outer walled compound, with 3 main gates. Each with reinforced gatehouses, and about 10 NPC Guards each.
You decide that a Frontal Assault is preferred, so call in 2 Tanks, full loaded, and assault Gate A.
Once you are spotted, and alarm goes off, and Amarrian 'Slave Guards' begin assaulting in waves as you push through. You reach the gate, and one member of your team jumps out, accesses the gate controls in the gatehouse, and opens the gates. Quickly spotting AV Infantry inside, your Infantry Teams disembark, trying to take out NPC infantry to get your Heavy Armor Support into the compound.
You move on, passing through the slave pens once you've got your Heavy Armor guarding your rear, you delegate 2 people to administer the Vitoc Antidote and guard the slaves as they escape back to your landing point for extraction. Meanwhile, you and your partner press on, having a few firefights, until you reach the central reactor. You plant the explosives while under fire, with your teammate providing cover fire.
Meanwhile, outside, the extraction team, with tank support, are fighting to escort the freed slaves to the extraction point against 4 NPC Tanks, and 4 Dropships worth of Amarrian Soldiers.
How does this resolve? The choice would be up to you! |

This sounds really good, but it doesn't seem like it would be player driven. EVE people and Dust people have no need for slaves, unless we could grind them up into clone matter to replicaete ourselves more. But it does sound like fun.
Maybe if there was something else were were trying to get down there that would make more sense, like BPCs, weapons stashes, rare materials, or to make EVE players create contracts for us, rare ship stuf and T3 BPCs. |

The point is that someone is paying us to get that facility dead... and free the slaves if possible. It's not us that need the slaves. |

PvE Campaign Style Missions!
Because there are those who want to mass murder NPCs, and they should have somewhere to go. |

I like the cut of your jib lad, throw some of this up on the board (or just copy paste)

We've gone over very similar ideas, but I'm even more enthralled by the thought that we could essentially do storyline or plot-arc kind of missions. Or in another way, each corporation has a storyline mission for those with higher and higher standings and the goal is when you max out in Reputation for that corp from missions and such, you get a single chance to complete one of these missions...
Of course, you might make it a little less harsh for some, but I really like the idea of a one time mission which requires a hard choice to be made and different rewards. Keep this up man ^^ |

A good way to tie in a campaign, lore wise is... They are simulated training missions of actual events.
Let me elaborate-
Your merc is hooked up to a pod that puts your mind into suspended animation. Which would allow you to replay the events that happened. It would also explain why you don't lose ISK when you die, why the scene rewinds when you die (and re-appear at the last saved check point),why you can replay the missions and it could also let us explore the history of the EVE Universe... Through hidden Easter eggs (journals, recorded messages, coded messages, or even small 5 second clips) |

Hmmm EVE has story arcs kinda like this I think dust could have them as well but make them require more than one person because dust is about teamwork and all that jazz. |
