I'm still pretty new to tanking but shield tanking seems like a much better investment since it repairs without a module and doesn't reduce speed. |

Shield tanking seems better. Shields have more resistance against those pesky swarms and AV grenades, as well as the handy active resistance modules. You are a bit more susceptible to forge guns, but forge guns are less common than swarms anyways. |

I haven't done any shield tanking, but I do drive a lot of armor tanks.
From my understanding, active hardeners last longer and have shorter cool downs than the shield variety. And the active repper is supposed to be better than the shield version.
For the down sides, armor is more susceptible to most forms of AV, from AV grenades to swarms. There's just more of that then flux grenades and forge gunners from what I see. And forge gunners hit armor the same as shields if I remember correctly.
Also armor is slow and takes forever to turn around, if you don't plan where you are going and how you are going to get out when it go's bad, you will die. But I'm pretty sure that's the same for shield tanks, except the slow and forever turn speeds.
Edit: Checked your OP again, realized I said stuff that you might know already. |

Don't shield tanks have an easier time fitting rail guns?
I don't see why you would ever use blasters or missiles since you have to be a lot closer to your enemy, making your much more likely to lose your investment. Not mention that rail guns just chew up enemy armor, so you're a lot more efficient in that department.
I enjoyed the blaster tank I messed around with, but it seems like rail guns are superior in just about every way. |
