Most of the Alliance interfaces I believe are coming with Uprising. We should see alot more good stuff then.
I actually have no idea if my corp is in an alliance or not.
Maybe because I'm bad, or just dont pay attention, or a jerk, or dumb. |

Only way to join an alliance eg. get the tag (look under my corp name for an example of that) is for your corp to join the alliance eve side, right now most alliances are simply a case of people have agreed to be under one tag, but don't have the means to actually join. |

You were in Rise of Legion, but you/onslaught left 2013/2/10. I don't know why.
http://evemaps.dotlan.net is a heck of a source for that sort of information, and is the best source for starting to wrap your head around what the space politics of New Eden looks like. Not every dust corp is on dotlan yet, I believe it is an issue with api keys, but you'll be able to get a decent idea of the shape of things to come. |

It is also worth noting that starting an alliance in EVE costs one billion ISK.
1,000,000,000 ISK
^ Yes, that.
So until we get cash transfers back and forth from EVE, it is likely to mostly be handled from the EVE side. |

I'm wondering how important it is to join an alliance, If most the good players are in corps loyal to an alliance or if most just want to battle, and wont care who they fight. |

thanks for the link. There are 119 alliances that have at least one system, I didnt see Rise of Legion in that 119. Can an alliance exist without a system? |

Yes.
Not every alliance cares about holding SOV (owning stations aka "player owned stations -POS). Many alliances are purely pvp, and theres also industry based or mining alliances that operate out of higher security areas.
Theres also the dust-only alliances (i.e. ROFL. Theres no actual difference between eve or dust alliances aside from who their members are) that have pilots to set up an alliances that simply can't hold sov because there is no sov for them to hold yet.
An alliance is simply a bunch of corporations that are officially working together towards a common end - it might be holding onto stations but it could be anything.
There are also "coalitions". Alliances of alliances. The two more notable coalitions are the Honey Badger Coalition (of which TEST is a member) and the Cluster F u c k Coalition and between them they hold a dominating majority of all space that can be owned by players.
IMPORTANT PSA -
If anybody is thinking about creating an alliance then you need to make another corporation to be the executor of your new alliance.
The reasoning behind this is that if a spy, saboteur, or any other sort of miscreant were to lie their way into director roles of your main operating corporation and it is the executor of the entire alliance they destroy things at an alliance level.
If you have a dummy corp set up for maintaining the alliance you can mitigate the damage done to your allies by that spy. |
