On the subject of "go anywhere, do anything", why would PVE need to be limited to planetary installations with drones? While drones are a cool place to start, I'm of the mind-set that we should be just as free as a capsuleer to d**k around and end up getting ganked on some back-water asteroid installation.
Might not we get a lore-friendly reason to hack our way into a Sleeper station sitting in WH space? A capsuleer jumps in, and sets up a cyno for a war-barge to follow. Cyno would have a 35 minute alert for any corps to flag the request and jump in, and there would not be a limit on the number of corps that could accept, so long as they could hold off the security drones. War-barge launches bore pods that breach the exterior hull, and begin to inject mercs inside the station. While the capsuleer fights the security drones outside (capsuleer can choose not to defend any corp they wish, but the war barge should have basic weaponry, possibly manned by any Merc that wished to stay out of the station), we fight the security systems inside, along with any nasty surprises the Sleepers have waiting. Epic loot for anyone that can survive, and resist any Sleeper interference in the implants. This could branch the FPS into the FPS Horror if required, but it's not necessary for rewarding gameplay.
Maybe a Sansha incursion pops up and is taking over a POS, and the Mercs have a limited window to respond to the distress beacon and trash some Nation soldiers. Similar to above, the emergency beacon can act as a Cyno for the war barge, or the mercs can spawn at strategic locations in the station. The more station you control, the higher the number of mercs that can spawn in to assist/stab you in the back.
This doesn't take anything away from PVP. If anything, I'd love to be doing a PVE instance, and have to be worried about some blueberry or raspberry popping around the corner and ruining my day. If it could be done in any normal social interaction, I expect a remote possibility of legitimate griefing in PVE as well.
As for the argument about walking on the planet and getting attacked by farmers, I have laid out in another thread my ideas for a player owned mining claim. Claim jumpers would be a concern, and you would have to defend your investment.
Just because someone says PVE, doesn't mean we should have to assume a drone infestation in an industrial/military complex planet-side. |
