Id like to have a discussion about the viability of the dropship. I know there are a lot of fans of flying in this game. However, due to the missile nerf and the glass hull it has many pilots don't fly them. Not to mention the sheer agony of trying to get newberries to jump out of your ship when hovered over a capture point.
Personally, flying is one of the most rewarding things in this game but find myself not wanting to fly it for many reasons. As a community what are your thoughts.
Is it worth flying?
Not in pub matches except for the keeping the flying skills up.
Corp matches, how do they fair?
I can't say, haven't flown one in a corp match, im still training but i can see the value in it.
Is it worth going all out as some do with tanks?
Difficult to say really, but my initial answer is no, its going to get blown up by 30 militia swarms anyway.
just a few questions. Overall i carry a positive attitude towards dropships just need some CCP love.

They need enough love to make a carebear puke, they're worth way too much isk for the tiny reward you get, its fun to fly but so much stuff needs fixing. if you want to give it the best chance to survive you need to go all out. |

A well fit dropship can actually destroy tanks quite easily, if it isn't a just as equally well fit tank. I've been a gunner for a pilot who had proto missile turrets and we have destroyed tanks that couldn't do anything to stop us. |

Nice to hear some positive information coming. I can see the role of that as an ariel tank killer but outside of that? |

Mobile CRU, it would allow you to tactically place players spawning in, like have all the AV guys spawn in the Dropship and then drop them off in position to take the tank out, or drop a squad of heavies behind where the enemy are taking cover ect |

The proto missile turrets are actually great at destroying installations and killing infantry as well. Plus if you put a defend order on the drophip and have the squad leader be the pilot you can get plenty of WP. One match the other gunner and I only had 9 kills but we were first and second on the leader board with 2100, and 2000 WP. |

Yeah I've flown dropships and destroyed tanks with them. Also I have a logi dropship that allows for my friend to just stack armour and armour mods so he's a monster not to be trifled with. I'm actually ok with the missile turrets, they could use a slight increase in splash radius but not much. The only problem with dropships is that damn collision damage and the small maps and low amount of people allowed in a corp match that allows them to be impractical...and that they don't reward you for being a good pilot....and did I mention the collision damage? |

yes that is a pivitol roll of the dropship however, lack of knowledge astounds me in pub matches. Most newberies dont have a clue how to jump out of them even though it shows you just as you get in. I really like the idea of a mobile cru just frustrates me to have a full ship and no one jumps out when i land next to an objective. |

Dropships don't belong in the current game, or more specifically the current maps. They'll be extremely useful once we have the whole district to transport people through. |

Look for them to be useful when we get squads of six. Then you can take five of your corp mates to assult an objective without tricking in on the ground.
Maps with objectives more than a hundred yards apart will also help.
Hunting tanks will be truly useful when we can fly higher than they can drive. As it is, they can park on a tall hill that we can't fly halfway up. It's a bit surreal to follow a road up a hill and end up landing on it like a beach because you can't fly any higher even at full thrust.
Missiles might be good for AV, but I laugh if they shoot me as infantry. I can be just as effective returning fire with my MD.
I don't think a DS would be a wise investment for a corp battle because they would tie up too many resources for the benefit. |

Create a vehicle module: ejector seats. When activated via the radial menu all passengers get the arial boot! They can also all gain an electronic tag called "dropped". Any WP they earn over the next , say, 90 sec give assist point to the pilot that launched them into the ether. |
