There are three different types of grenades. personal, Anti-vehicle and Flux. Each will be explained later in this post. There are two sub-types of grenades, standard and light. Standard as you can guess is a general purpose and the light version has lower yield but can be thrown farther.
Personal Grenade: This is your go to generic grenade. Can be used to damage everything within reach. Nothing special
Anti Vehicle: as the name says its anti-vehicle. However, these type of grenades home in on their target for a short distance. You simple thrown the grenade in the general vacinity and as long as its within its homing range it will do the rest.
***Note: AV (anti-vehicle) grenades DO NOT WORK ON DROPSHIPS nor Installations at this time. Don't waste throwing av grenades at them. You are just wasting isk. Other grenade types will do damage to them. ***
Flux Grenades: These type of grenades affect Shields on infantry, installations and vehicles. It is an awesome weapon to use prior to engaging infantry. See a bunch of infantry in an area, toss one of these first in the middle of them and waste em! Most infantry uses shields for their primary defense (heavy's or fatties often use more armor then shields). Common tactic for heavy machine gunners is to toss one of these into a group of infantry and then mow them all down.
It is a very good idea to take these all the way up to level V. You will not regret this discision. Lai Dai Anti-vehicle grenades are terror for tanks.
Enjoy your nading adventures. |

I would like to add some things. First, "personal" grenades are called locus grenades.
There are also 2 variants to watch for- Sleek: can be thrown further, have a larger blast radius, but have less damage. Packed: Opposite of sleek. |

As a dropship pilot I assure you that AV nades do work on dropships, I once made the mistake of hovering too close to the ground and some red dots made me pay. |

True but ive thrown them at them while they were close to the ground maybe thats the key they have to be on the ground vs in the air

I used to do that as a desperation tactic whenever someone caught me in my anti-tank fitting (sometimes they'd panic). Then I switched to locus grenades...much more effective |

I'm pretty sure that AV grenades don't home on dropships, but they do explode on contact. So since you can throw sleek grenades further, you have a better chance of hitting stuff in the air with them. I've also used a cooked flux grenade with a bit of success to take out the shields of a DS. |

AV nades do work on dropships, you just don't run into the case where they are in range to use them much |
