I thought our ancestors came from the Miky Way to EVE through a natural wormhole, not like a supersized jump gate. If it was this supersized jump gate that made the wormhole allowing Milky Way travel to EVE galaxy, then some different race must have built this super gate.
Unless this super gate was built by the first settlers to the EVE system to study the wormhole passage. |

"EVE" is the gate, not the cluster, which is called New Eden for whatever reason
The original wormhole that leads to New Eden was a naturally occurring one, as far as we know. The human race that was back then colonizing just about everything in the Milky Way galaxy came through it.
But they also built the super gate called EVE (which as a gate called ADAM as far as one CCP dev has mentioned) with the intent of having a more stable/secure way of getting lots of people through to colonize the planets in New Eden. The original wormhole collapsed (or somehow has a never-ending storm) and seems to have taken out both sides, making it impossible to cross again.
So yes, the gate was built by the human race back then, they just built it to make sure they had passage because they knew the original wormhole would collapse at some point. |

Oh okay. So then the first settlers to EVE built the gate to try to stabilize the natural wormhole, wormhole closes anyway and all that's left is this "jump gate" structure. Is that correct ? |

So then the wormhole and EVE Gate are in slightly seperate locations in the same system or was the gate over the natural wormhole before the wormhole collapsed? Kind of like an event horizon in Stargate with the wormhole being the wormhile and the EVE gate being the Stargate built over/ around it. |

I like to imagine that the wormholes that started popping up in the Apopcrypha expansion are actually leading back to the Milky Way and that the sleepers we encounter there are the last surviving relics of the civilization we left behind. |
