Drones would be a great tool for dropsuits for many different situations. THis is how I think thay should work.
For dropsuits, there should be a light handheld weapon called the "Drone Master Controller", or D.M.C. for short. It should take up a high ammount of CPU and PG. What it does is that it connects to the dropsuit class through a connection. You can select a drone, pick a target, and it will do whatever job it has been designed to do. To balance how many drones you can have, the D.M.C. would have a bandwidth. the higher the D.M.C.'s meta level, the more bandwidth it would have. Drones use up this bandwidth. the higher their meta level, the more they require. Also, Logistics Dropsuits, especially the Gallente ones, get a bonus to drones, such as more bandwidth, bonuses for their equipment (explained later), etc.
Drone hulls: There should be three types of hulls- Light Medium, and Heavy. THe should work something like this.
Light- smallest sized drone. fastest, and has the best tracking ability, and also requires the least ammount of bandwidth. Has the Lowest ammount of CPU/PG Has the lowest ammount of eHP. Has the lowest ammount of Module slots. Can only fit light drone equipment, and light modules.
Medium- mid-sized drone. Has medium everything. Can fit light and medium drone equipment, and light and medium modules.
Heavy- Biggest sized drone. Slowest, worst tracking ability, and requires the most bandwidth. Has the highest ammount of CPU/PG. Has the most ammount of eHP. Has the most ammount of Module slots. Can fit everything.
Drone equipment: The Drones should be fit with a device that would do a specific task. LIght equipment would take up the least ammount of CPU/PG, Medium would take medium, and Heavy would take the most.
Weaponary- all weapons should be based off the vehicle turrets (blasters, rails, etc.) and should have their varients. You would pull up your D.M.C. to select a area (think target painter) and it targets it untill it dies, there is no remaining enemies, or you tell it to go somewhere else. Also passively defends you and surrounding friendlies if a enemy is in range. Light should be as strong as light handheld weapons, Medium should be as strong as Heavy handheld weapons, and Heavy should be as strong as small turrets.
Active scanner- You tell it to target a area, and it scans the area for 30 seconds to a minute, then returns to you. Also passively scans around you if there is no target.
Armor/shield repair tool- You target a area, and it heals the people in that area. if there is no target, it healswhoever is in range and has damage done to them. Light should be weaker than the Repair tools, Medium should be slightly stronger, and Heavy should be somewhere bewteen Repair tools, and the Adv. light self repps.
Nanite injection Dart- Fires a dart into a down mercs neck that acts like a nanite injector. Same process as the others. Light is slightly weaker than the nanite injectors, Medium is slightly stronger, and Heavy is way stronger.
Mobile nanohive- As the name implies. Same process as the last ones. Light has more nanites, but a lower supply rate than normal nanohives. Medium has even more and a normal supply rate, and heavy has even more, and an increased supply rate.
Drone Modules: Drone modules would work about the same as dropsuit and vehicle modules, Only there is some slight differences:
Efficenty module-instead of damage modules, these will coverthe weaponary, as well as all the other equipment. These would increase the power that they dish out, such as repair rates, scanning accuracy, etc.
For Light modules, they take the least ammount of CPU/PG, Medium takes the medium, and Heavy takes the most, but Light gets the least bounses, medium gets medium, and Heavy gets the most powerful.

I would like to see drones in dust, but not in a combat role, unless they're airstriking from eve or something. Support drones would be very nice though - a repair drone following your squad around would be a neat and useful addition. Though perhaps if this is in a light weapon slot a manually controllable combat drone would also be nice. |

No offense, but that was way too simple. |

so all those drones are just AI ? You pick a target and it goes killing it, healing it, repairing it ?
What is the point ? And do you think Dust actually needs to see even more resources eaten by more AI ? What happens in a 16 vs 16 games when 8 dudes decide to use this ? Even more redline camping ? Why not send the drones through the MCC hatch and just stay there, it's even better.
I'm sorry for being all sarcastic and unpleasant. But i'm reading to much stuff that imo just dont make sense atm. |

I think the DMC should be an equipment slot. Drones should have a bandwidth cost based on their base model and their fitted modules/equipment/weapons. Logis would be most suitable for drone-carrying, since they have a high CPU and PG. Also, since specialized suits (like ships in EVE, the "specific suit specializations" alluded to in the Dropsuit Command skill description) are coming later, there might be a "Drone Suit" that has a PG/CPU reduction to DMCs and an increase in DMC bandwidth.
As to how it could be used, I suggest that if you open the deployment menu with your DMC out, it shows an option to bring out any drones in your assets (you would be limited to how many drones you could have out at a time by DMC bandwidth). Any drones called in drop from the warbarge with inertia dampeners, and thereby do not wander more than 50m away from you. They do their job (determined by their equipment) normally unless commanded to do something else. They can be sent back from the deployment window. If you get killed, your drones are auto-recalled. If you have the DMC out, pressing L1 brings out a drone wheel (I can imagine handheld DMCs having at most 4-5 drones out at a time, so this shouldn't be much of a hassle) where you select a drone, or have an option to select all drones. Selecting a drone gives you a wheel with anything the drone is capable of doing, and it works like squad commands from there onwards. If you bring up the wheel again, it shows the commands for that drone again, but you can choose the exit option to select another drone. You gain 20% of the WP the drone would gain if it performs any WP-earning action. As for skills, I suggest Drone Command add 5% to your DMCs bandwidth per level, along with a host of support skills that make your drones better at certain tasks. |

New equipment types for drones:
EM pulse- hih electromagnetic pulse that tempoarily shuts down some equipment, and lowers the performance of other things, sugh as lowered performance for modules, weapon max range, etc. Can also have a chance of failing that equipment (militia has a very high failure rate, STD lower, Adv even lower, PROTO has a pretty low failure rate, and Officer gear can't fail.). Also efffects Friendlies. Does not effect Miminatar gear.
Power surger- The exact opposite of the EM pulse. Doesn't work on Militia Gear. Negates the effect of the EM pulse (or lowers it, depending on their levels). Has a chance of supercharging the dropsuit, boosting a specific part of it in the process even higher than the rest (ex. My scout gets Supercharged, and now, My shotgun does instead of 125% damage from 100% damage, it does 150% damage. another ex. My Heavy is Supercharged. Now, my Armor rises from 150% to 175%. Also, these should lower the time for active modules (say the dropsuits actually get them).
Both of these uses a very high ammount of Bandwidth, and takes up much of the CPU/PG of the Drone. There should also be vehicle versions that efect only vehicles, and those affect both dropsuits and vehicles. The dropsuit ones don't support vehicles. |

I have to agree here.
In Eve drones work well because you don't aim anything, you just point and click and stay in range.
In Dust, I think that all the things that drones can do should be done by players. |

I was thinking you could eventually skill up your own dropsuit with AI and leave it(in limited numbers) to protect your district against rogue Drones while you're away. They could make this and extra part of the Passive SP system. This might be a bit complicated but it'd be cool to log in and check how many drones your dropsuit drone fought off while you were gone. |
