I was cruising around null-sec the other and was checking on PI on a few planets and the thought hit me "What if we could rename planets?" I brought this up to other members of my corp in regards to when planetary conquest goes live and they loved the idea. So I pose it to the community as a whole. If a corporation/allaince owns all of and or the majority of the districts of a planet should they be allowed to rename it to suit their fancy? Eve if only in low and or null-sec and even if a cost was associated with this renaming in isk I feel like it would be a big pull for DUST members to want to get into the mechanic as well as give the EVE corporations and alliances another incentive to try out this mechanic.
In short, renaming planets and or districts if owned via planetary conquest yea or nay? |

Nice idea, but it worries me of the silly planet names we will be seeing around later on. But i'd like to see that in dust/eve.

If a corp owned all the districts on a planet, it'd be pretty neat to have them able to rename it. Silly names would definitely happen though. |

my first question would have to be about what the Goons would name their stuff. considered their home system is called "Mitaningrad" and the '09 alliance panel was about how often CCP sent them mails about "offensive content" lol but yeah that would be censored in much the same way POS names are I think |

Been mulling over this and in reality in Null-Sec (at least sov null) the players technically own the systems as long as it's within their sov space so really they have a little bit of reasoning power to rename the planets to whatever they want seeing as how they "own them." So for sov holding null I think that this is completely justified, personally I live in npc null so I would love to see it there as well. Probably not all that likely but it never hurts to ask ;P |

Well, planet naming could require CONCORD (read CCP) approval.
Honestly, I prefer that, so long as CCP stops being so slow when it comes to things like that. Take for example, alliance logos. Sometimes CCP takes weeks or months to finally implement the logo for the alliance. Sad, but true. |

I don't know if I like this, renaming a district would be cool, but a habitable planet seems like it needs to keep the same name for continuity. Like if alliances in EvE could rename systems then you would never be able to find what you are looking for on the map if you didn't know where it was. QXE-1N could become Marshmellow Land then a week later Empire Crib then another week later New Havana to Wakka Wakka.
I prefer just having QXE-1N.
Now maybe if you are required to own the planet for 6 months then be able to rename it. Sometime to keep some consistancy. |

Significant investment in time, and a large amount of ISK to go with it, and you get to put in a request to CONCORD for the planet to be renamed. But if there's a 6 month wait before you can name the world, it should require less than full control. I'd say a Corp should need to maintain control of a minimum of 60% of the planet without interruption for 6 months before they're eligible to rename it. You could maybe cut it back to 3 months and be more strict with how much of the world needs to be held.
As for districts, I think they should have an official designation that can't be changed, as well as a name that's assigned by the owner (with CONCORD having power to revert the name to the official designation and block any previously-rejected name at any time). This would (obviously) also cost ISK, but (also obviously) not as much as renaming a planet.
If you hold enough of a planet, you could name the your districts after the planet name you want to use. That way, you'll get a preview of the official response to the name without having to wait until you've spent your ISK making the request only to find that you're trying to name the planet something that CCP don't like (or can't get the rights for). |

We've been asking for this for awhile.
CCP's response was "not right now".
Hopefully that will change once Uprising launches and they have a chance to see how the game plays out.
Perhaps if one of the Dustboard-type sites gets into PC sov tracking, they could allow the registered CEO of the controlling corp to name the district on the site. That would enable CCP to see what kind of names are chosen and hopefully assuage their fears towards letting us do it. |

Vaerana Myshtana is correct. This is something we want to do, but are not there yet. I think we would like to see it tied to something that indicates you control the planet. Renaming all districts might be a bit much, but if taking control of a whole planet was an achievement I know I would like to see one of the rewards being the ability to maybe nickname a planet, or name some hero object on the planet that everyone can see. |
