By all means keep the current random salvage as it is be please also add an active form of salvaging that would/could involve a piece of equipment which would take a sidearm slot and be used on dead bodies before they disintegrated (this would involve lengthening the time before bodies decompose). To cut down on people going around taking everyone else's salvage inventory slots could be added so you can keep track of your salvage and the inventory size would differ between suits.
However to maintain your salvage at the end of the game you either have to survive or deposit your salvage into supply depots.
Any thoughts? |

I like the idea. Maybe it should allow you to at least pick up the weapon that the other person was using when you killed him? Whether you have or do not have the skills to use the weapon, you can still pick it up into your inventory and if you want, deposit it into a supply depot and its yours to keep for future fittings |

+1 I don't think it should require any special item to do. |

It would all be chance based, you activate the handheld salvager and go through a 10sec timer (maybe shorter) then you may or mau not pick up a few modules |

I like that! I can imagine walking up to the person I just shot, lean over his limp dropsuit, search it for valuables (with some fancy animation), and move along. |

I was thinking of going to a dead body, holding O like you're hacking, and its says something like "Salvaged 1 GEK-38 assault rifle" when you're done. It would also be nice if it told you if you have the skills needed to use the item if its a weapon, and if you do have the skills for that weapon, it asks you if you want to switch to that weapon. |

Basically that but where you shoot could alter the drop chance, like if most of the shots or the killing blow lands on their torso your chance for armor mod drop chances lower |

You are aware that you have no say so in the ordering of functionality releases, right?
Salvage is definitely in the works and will match or be very similar to the methodology that EVE uses.
When we see it will be determined partially by the impact on the economies of EVE and DUST. Whether that is before or after the Player to Player market opens is not clear to me. It might well be to CCP.
One might guess that opening the P2P market in DUST first would allow CCP to juggle the solution until they and their economist are satisfied with the results. After that settles the EVE players supplying the DUST market with materiel would be the next logical step.
Take into consideration that AUR and/or Officer based items might not even be allowed into the Market depending on whether they are destabilizing elements.
Personally it is interesting but not nearly as important as being able to buy proper Scopes provided by EVE manufacturing capabilities and not being hide-bound like the current QQ Kitten Knee Jerk reactionary solutions we are limited to. |

I like the idea of actively salvaging from anyone who has been killed around you, team mates and enemies. I don't think you should get one random item that was on their dropsuit fitting, we don't need to be getting a bunch of free militia gear from people
I think there should be a pool of equipment you can earn as salvage from the battle, and each person you harvest salvage from should earn you one random drawing from the pool of equipment. Or each person you salvage from ends up increases the likelyhood of you getting salvage, or whatever. |

Some extra incentive to go for the headshot. Would explosives and orb strikes (or overkill in general) destroy salvageable items?

I like this particular idea it would give us more to trade on the market when I gets up and running. My two cents would be instead of picking up the dead players weapon you'd get one random piece of the dropsuit/vehicle fitting. It should also be only usable on enemy players "killing" the player so the are no longer "down". |

Corpses would have to persist in a different way - perhaps once they bleed out they could go dark but not disintegrate for thirty seconds or so? Some scenes of carnage would look much better like this as well. Today I had a cool moment when I ran down a corpse-strewn corridor shooting. |

there is only 1 fatal flaw to it being a sidearm that means a Logi can't get any salvage that way as they have no sidearm, now an equipment slot ok.. but now I know this would eliminate heavy's since they don't have equipment slots.. so instead of just going to the person with the salvage ray, it would go to all/any of those in range say like a 5m range |

Reminds me of Scavenger from COD (yeah I said it!). Instead of ammo it would be valuable salvage.
Though I think it would be better as a pure skill... +3% chance of salvage per level. Would only effect bodies you walk over. |

Everything in a battle will be tested to see if it survives (last I heard). The surviving bits will wind up in a Salvage pool. This will be split between winners and losers. This is similar to EVE but will not require the EVE module to salvage equipment.
And the inventory slots to save for Salvage is beyond a bad idea. You would have to erase it to get it up to bad. Drop Suit Slots are worth more than Salvage and how would you fit a Prometheus in one anyway?
Your method requires significant code and developer resources. The CCP solution is all server side and requires significantly less effort. Let the Devs roll their idea out first. Just don't hold your breath regarding keeping the current Random drops as they make no sense in actual battle scenarios.
BTW, we get this idea posted at least once a month. |
