A DUST team leader is in charge of a group who will be risking at most about ten million isk worth of gear, which they earn pretty much by accident in pub games. Even the rather embarrassing 600 million isk loss my own corp recently suffered was a hit to our pride more than our wallet. You pretty much manufacture isk in pub games.
DUST just doesn't have the stakes or battle sizes to allow us to draw a comparison between its team leaders and the FCs of EVE. I hope we get there some day, and I have every confidence that CCP will do it, but for now...meh.
Can't speak about EVE FC's but one thinks that by the sound of it EVE FC"s micromanage every facet of the battlefield which i find interesting.
Dust FC's have a limited personal and therefore the loss of one of those individuals be it by death or disconnect can dramatically change the tide of battle and necessitate rapid and quick tactics on the fly.
Often numbers cushion the blows of losses, unless managed more on a top down level where you have squadron-->battlaion-->fleet organization at which point it is less micro and more macro with well coordinated delegation. On the fly difficult to do, with knowledge, experience and familiarity of the personel a little less so.
Ive listened to a few FCs in EVE that ive found on YT and yes there is a lot of logistical elements involved, but i think thats also why you see such smaller organizations in FPS and even large player organizations like you had in MAG there was a tiered comm system that allowed for directed control of the battle and more importantly when you have leet players they generally dont need tactical direction they just need to know where the enemies are and comm chatter is minimal to non-existent because people "know" where to be and go.
Now if Dust ever gets to the point where its like real where with grunts on the ground and FCs in a tent watching the battle in real time and relaying orders(then the real wargames can begin) |
