my suggestion with the introduction of PC is to create a new form of points called campaign points to add things to a conflict on a planetary scale, something more suitable for the prolonged conflicts that will be occurring in PC.
so every battle your corporation wins, would earn them a few corporation points even in instant battles, thus even the players that aren't directly involved in PC can still help their corp by earnign what's needed to use these tactics.
second these points could be used to gain tactical advantages in PC.
some suggested uses of this would be as follows :
- shorten the window of an attack : reduce the time an opponent has to attack an area by 5 minutes( this would stack a number of times, if the corps had enough CP to pull it off )
- supply block - the time required for an opponent to call in a vehicle/ installation is increased by 10 seconds.
- emergency production - increase an areas production of clones by 50 for one day, reduced by 25 the next day.
- tactical sweep - find out how many clones an area has to defend with before you declare an attack. what kind of instalations they have to defend, and other useful info.
- tactical deploy - at the beginning of the next conflict within an area you control, all deploy timers for your forces will be instant on their first deploy.
those are just some examples to scratch the surface of what you could do tactically using a system like this, and will add a level of depth for commanders of corporations to use.
Why not just use ISK? |

Well for a few reasons, the first of which is the ridiculous amounts of ISK the eve players will be bringing into the economy will pretty much negate a restriction like that, second this form of implementation will allow for a few forms of "control" to be implemented It's more or less the same reason we use WP to restrict orbitals and not simply allow players to buy them. another reason is that this allows players that won't directly be involved in PC to contribute, which is always good. finally this is simply easier to balance then ISK, for example maybe corps will earn separate CP on each planet they are running a campaign on, thus tactics that could effectively instantly turn the tide of a campaign aren't immediately available at the start of your operations on a planet, or maybe you just want CP to degrade over time if not spent. things like that can't be done with ISK, at least not quite as easily. their is also a little bit of thematic value
Fair enough. Let me offer a couple of observations and counterpoints.
While it's true that there's a lot of ISK in Eve, I assume that CCP has a plan to manage this because it will be an issue in many places for Dust. Also, one thing that's nice about Eve is that nearly everything, eventually, boils down to ISK. This is nice because it means that you don't have to play the game "their way" For instance, You can be a miner, and still buy everything necessary for mission running, or exploring, etc. One thing I don't like about other MMOs is that in order to get the proper equipment/gear/skills or whatever for a particular game mode, you usually have to grind that game mode. I'm not a big fan of that. having everything settle down in to ISK eventually means that you can do what you want, when you want, for the most aprt.
Now, EVE, and soon to be Dust I assume, does have faction and NPC corporate loyalty points, so this idea isn't unprecedented. As far as I know, loyalty points will be coming to Dust, and what you describe is basically the Player equivalent of loyalty points.
Assuming the points are obtainable outside of corp fights, as you already mention, or you can get these CP points in some other manner, or if you could buy/sell items purchased with CP (like in Eve), I'd be much more down with the idea.
Still, nice creative thinking going on, so props. |
