Eventually I predict that the SP system will look like this:
Add all the weekly SP you can get into the passive you normally get, then make 1 WP = 1 SP for all matches played. Add in bonuses for skill kills in battle (head shots kills, multiple kills on a single grenade, etc.), exceptional use of equipment (repaired someone who was at 10% health or less 2 seconds or less after they initially took the damage, revived ally less than 2 seconds after they went down, etc.) and other battlefield accomplishments/skills. And finally, remove time based SP gains in battle.
Noobs would be able to keep up relatively well since passive SP would be building very fast, people who wish to grind can get ahead a little, and afkers would disappear since afking in battle serves no purpose.
Now, let me say this:
I am against going straight passive like Eve, and have been against it since it was first brought up almost a year ago.
I am also against using the current system with 1 WP = 1 SP since those who cannot get all of their weekly SP would be just that much worse off.
I am against the SP system I just suggested as it removes all of the feeling of accomplishment that comes with working hard to earn all that SP every week, as well as making the game give you 90% of your character growth which I absolutely abhor (I personally think that if your character grows, it should be due to your efforts alone, not because the game coddles you).
However, even I will have to concede that the SP system would be best balanced this way. This system would make MOST of your SP passive, but still allow you to work towards surpassing others. No one can "miss out" on SP, there would be no need for an "SP pool", people could grind if they wish, people would get rewarded for doing better in battle, people who do poorly would still get SP easily enough to keep up, AFKing would be pointless and serve no purpose, and it wouldn't be all that hard to implement. (I don't think so anyway).
Yes, sometimes I have ideas on how to fix things and I hate the results of that idea. It's like getting sick and having to take medicine that tastes awful. You don't like it, but you know it will make things better, so you gotta take it anyway. |

Dont do things like skill based bonus ****, this isn't CoD. The only reward for skills should be the accomplishment you feel when headshotting a lav driver in full drive using your scrambler pistol. Also kill combos would promote 'unhealthy' gameplay attitude, aka. Run n gun instead of objective oriented gameplay, reviving someone even though you know he will be killed instantly again, because the dude who shot him looks straight at him, etc. Also the possibilities to exploit that system. Think about the exploiters! This system would widen the sp gap between "good" and "bad" players even more, as the only thing that counts are skill kills (there was this one game, i think it was called hedony, that implemented a skill kill based system. If i remember correctly the game is now dead)
Aside from that: Regarding the kill 5sp per second, i wonder how that could be compensated, maybe increase the sp per wp ratio? But then again you would get people who can't do **** because they just don't get WP. but then again, what would be with those poor people who dont get any wp at all, because they are new and just dont know their way around in Dust. their progress would stagnate. As for the skills bonuses, I never said I wanted them, I merely said they'll end up in there somehow. We may be able to soften them down so you only get ~5-10 WP for it, but with this forum being open to suggestion from the whole gaming community, eventually there will be enough people who want them to shout us down. As I said in the OP, I don't want this, this is just how I see it turning out.
And giving out WP passively in the sum of your normal passive gain + your weekly active gains would mean it doesn't matter if they cannot earn WP in battle, they will still progress at largely the same rate as others, perhaps 10-15% slower at worst. Therefore you wouldn't have to suppliment SP to make up for it since it was just a mechanic that was build in to help people who couldn't make SP via WP. |

Giving bonus SP for this might not be the best idea. For the record I was tired and just trying to think of general examples, now that I think about it with a clear head, it might be best to award points if the player who was revived get's their shields to regen to full or if they survive x amount of time after revival. But as I said, it was just a vague example. |

NIKIA BETHUNE wrote:There is no way for new people to catch up. That would be fair to everyone best idea I saw was to split room say games for people below a certain sp and game for people above. That way if ur still getting wrecked you have less of an excuse ^^ I never said it would help new players catch up to existing ones, just that it would help new players keep pace with others who start around the same time |

No - this encourages us to be smart players which is a good thing. It means people will think, "oh I need to clear the area before I revive him? How novel!" Well, technically it would be a buff, not a nerf. This is about getting bonus points for using it well. If you use it correctly, you'd get a few extra WP to show for it. |
