This happens because spawning near teammates is deemed a higher priority than spawning away from enemies. The basic calculation being used is a good one, but the numbers need adjusting to tip the balance the other way.
Yup, pretty much sums up the current issue with Ambush, IMO.
I've been in Ambush pubstomps on both sides of this coin, where this spawning mechanic can be a major PITA or a major brush of awesomesauce. Most halfway decent pubstompers, who know the maps inside and out, can often anticipate where the next blob of reds will spawn next after taking out a spawn region, so we'll high-tail it over to that area and continue the slaughter.
On the other hand, after getting absolutely obliterated by a massive blob of pubstomping reds, by the time I respawn halfway across the map they're already 3-8 strong and gunning for my hide. The fact that my blueberry team is spawning in one-by-one and immediately running away instead of sticking around to provide support doesn't help matters much, neither.
The lessons here are: learn your maps, and take your time when choosing where (and when) to respawn.

And yes, camping CRUs and uplinks is (and ought to be) a perfectly acceptable game mechanic. Always amazes me how some redberries will eventually learn to not spawn there, while others continue to submit themselves to the slaughter.

How about when a squad with headsets times a heavy drop on a CRU or Void Cannon? Those can get ugly for everybody. I had happen today, rather liked it. Only got one of them before getting mowed down myself. Although that wasn't camping since they wouldn't let me hack the cannon in peace. Does pulling Over-Watch for a blueberry hacking count as a camp? Frankly getting shot in the back while hacking sucks.
In Soviet Russia, spawn camps you!
(srsly, clearly this is not spawn camping, you're ensuring the area is secure while your teammates hack away) |
