In Ambush (normal or OMS), when there isn't a fixed spawn location held by your team (CRU or Drop Uplink):
Press X to spawn on a random location. This preferentially targets areas near teammates, usually the largest concentration of them, but also tries (with less effort) to avoid spawning you near enemies.
In Ambush (normal or OMS), when there is a fixed spawn location held by your team:
Press X to spawn at the currently-marked spawn location. If this location is being camped by enemies, spawning here is a bad idea. Choose another spawn location.
Press square to spawn on a random location. As with pressing X in the previous scenario, this preferentially spawns you near teammates. If your whole team is spawning at a spawn location and getting slaughtered, then the random spawn will usually also put you close to this location, if not right on top of it. This happens because spawning near teammates is deemed a higher priority than spawning away from enemies. The basic calculation being used is a good one, but the numbers need adjusting to tip the balance the other way.
In Skirmish:
Your team always has at least 2 spawn locations. One ground-based point and one in your team's MCC (Mobile Command Centre. They're the two huge things flying above the battlefield that I hope you've already learned better than to try and shoot with your Shotgun). Press X to spawn on whichever spawn location you currently have highlighted. If your team holds any of the objectives (and the enemy doesn't have a hack in progress), you can spawn there instead of one of the starting spawns.
Also, don't use what you can't afford to lose. It's true in EVE Online, and it's true in DUST 514. It's a core principle of life in New Eden. Learn it well. |

+1
Even the in-game screen gives you an option to spawn at a default spawn in an ambush match. Just look at the bottom of the screen. It's not that hard to see. And +1 to you, because I forgot to mention that... Thanks. |

Rusty Shallows wrote:Does pulling Over-Watch for a blueberry hacking count as a camp? Frankly getting shot in the back while hacking sucks. If the enemy team holds one objective, and your team lets them keep it so they keep spawning there for you to murder them, that's spawn-camping.
If you're watching someone's back while they hack the objective, that's just securing the area.
Regardless, both are valid tactics, because cloning the enemy team out gets the battle finished sooner. |
