Basically it'd be the opposite of a logistics Dropship in that it can pick up, heal, and remove wounded Mercs. it however cannot pick up unharmed Mercs.
Unharmed Mercs can still board the ship when its on the ground but they reduce the usefulness of the ship since the more Mercs that are in the drop ship the fewer the number of people that can be picked up. |

M*A*S*H Totally MASH and I would love to see it. I personally think that it's a great idea! Allow a pilot to see where the down mercs are, land, and have them within the DS revived and getting repairs. I don't know how the downed mercs would get it in, but that's not my job! I was thinking there could be some kind of "beam me up" type gun that had to be within a specified range and held over the downed Merc for so long to move them inside the ship.
It could be upgraded to provide a longer range or a larger area to hold over the Merc |

Thats why I think there should be some kind of beam device, that way the ship doesn't have to directly land and can keep moving to prevent being shot down so easily. |

Just a thought, what if medics could also board to improve the efficiency of healing? They would also be able to operate the side turrets. The side turrets could consist of additional lifts, so that if you have a pilot and two medics you could theoretically extract three mercs in 3 seconds, four mercs in 6 seconds. (This isn't at all OP for a team of three mercs with substantial ISK expenditure, in my opinion.) And of course, you could put guns in the side turrets as well, to fight off enemies while doing your extraction, but extraction would take longer.
Alternatively, you could make it so only the turrets could lift downed mercs. I don't know how the pilot would aim at a body, with everything else going on. Thats actually a much better way to implement the basic mechanic I was thinking of. I like the idea of having medics on board improving efficiency.
I think that the removal device should be locked on to the ship possibly in the back and function like the door guns. You should be able to hold 7 people in the ship including crew, so you could choose to have two door gunners or run things a little more risky and be able to pick up five people, regardless it should take a minimum of two people to run a medical drop ship.
Maybe in later builds once drones are incorporated someone with high circuitry skill and drone operation or something could buy an automated extraction device. That way you only need a driver for a functioning evac-ship |

With regards to the "balancing effect" of the turrets, that would only be true if you were using a dropship that is specifically designed to be a medical dropship. If, as someone else suggested, you were to install a module on a standard dropship, you would still have the turret slots. Regardless, I feel like there should be an opportunity for a team to operate a triage unit as opposed to it being limited to just the pilot.
I agree, I know for a fact at least that I'd try to score some free WP if I saw an unarmed drop ship scooting around in hot areas. |
