My companion's heavy armor thunked loudly with each step as he strode through the halls making short work of anyone foolish enough to fight him head on. I scurried behind, keeping an armor repair lock on him at all times. I occasionally got a glimpse of the action, but his hulking form blocked most of the view (and incoming fire!).
I soon became bored with such a routine and longed to pull out my own rifle for a taste of the battle. I sighed and followed behind, putting such thoughts to rest, my role was important and I could not afford to stray from it now.
Suddenly, I spied him. Just around the next corner, I caught a quick look at what I mistook for a gorilla. A giant in armor as black as midnight and eyes of fire! My companion did not hesitate, the familiar whir and storm of bullets soon hailed upon the demon...and did nothing! Fascinated, I peeked through a gap beneath my guardian's arm.
He stood stock still, seemingly amused, at the efforts to kill him; as the hellfire raged inches away from his suit, all being absorbed by his shields, no less! Idly, he pulled out a laser rifle and a single beam of concentrated energy went straight into my companion.
I had been certain that nothing would kill my friend, he had proven invincible against the vanguard with me behind him. Yet, this single man and his single weapon, did what defied my beliefs. The laser tore through his armor as if it were nothing more than wet paper; my companion stopped firing his weapon, shuddered, and then collapsed into a heap of melted scrap metal.
I stared in stunned disbelief at the ruined remains of what was left of my guardian. I hadn't noticed the one in the black suit walking forward, it wasn't until I'd heard a rumbling sound that I looked up. He was laughing, no....it was laughing, as it casually walked forward a few strides.
I quickly regained my senses and leveled my weapon to fire and!....nothing? I still had my repair tool equipped! I had forgotten to switch to my rifle! The behemoth laughed again, waiting patiently to see what I would do next. I fumbled for my rifle and then put the beast into the center of my sights.
I fired short controlled bursts at him, taking great care to make every shot count. My companion relied on pure stopping power, I had to rely on precision in a pinch. My shots pierced his shields and I nearly laughed, believing that half of the battle was ended.
The monster stared at me with it's red eyes and pulled something from his belt. I paid it little mind and maintained my firing pace, concentrating on it's center mass. While I fired, I saw the beast shake as it's laughter rumbled the hall.
I was confused, but kept pelting him with shots, certain that I would win against this monstrosity.
Then the beast threw what was in his hand towards me. A well-cooked and well-aimed grenade. Frantic, I thought that I could at least take it down with me, but despaired at seeing his armor well above 50%. It laughed at me and hissed a single word that both haunts and strangely inspires me..."Prototype."
The last image that played in my mind as the flames engulfed me, was the beast in black armor...laughing. |

If serious then language is somewhat clunky and some revision is needed for better flow. Some better use of adjectives would also help generate atmosphere. What did the plasma look like, how did the black suit make your character react, sights, sounds, even smells. All the normal goodies. If not serious. that was pretty clever mate. +1 for that.
I'm a little rusty on my writing, hahaha; thanks for the feedback and criticism. This was both portraying the frightening strength of prototype users and serious writing.
Most of the 'black suits' that I've come across with my squad have either slain us with ease or they've put up an insane fight.
