It was recently stated that in the Uprising update in May 6, the graphics will receive "improvements".
  DUST 514 - Uprising (Massively.com)
Does this mean the resolution will be upgraded to 1080? I don't know about anyone else, but I personally got a PS3 just for this game. Coming from PC Gaming on a 27" inch display, this lower 720p resolution is horrible. :( |

Most games made for the ps3 today are not 1080p. |

I doubt it will be 1080p when that standard is so rare on the PS3, but I'm hoping for more improvements to the texture detail. You might have noticed significant texture pop-in throughout many areas of the game as well. It would be great to see that reduced, and while a common problem in UE3, it's one that many developers have managed to resolve.
I think those are more important to address than pure resolution. Some of the best-looking current-gen games are in 720p. |

My TV supports 1080p and 120hz. It's LED tv. The game will switch to 720p and 60hz. Anyways, it still looks good. I use to play it on my plasma and its nowhere good from my new tv. |

No good looking FPS on PS3 runs on 1080p that has huge multiplayer. 720p is standard for PS3, 1080 is rare thing and only useful for singleplayer "smaller" games. |

That only has parts of it that are 1080, cut-scenes or those dumb-as-all-else cinematic actions BS
THe only true 1080p games out there are the sports games. It is because there is basically nothing to so they foucs on graphics considering the program hasn't changed since '96.
the PS3, or the 360, can't run real games at that definition because the strain on the systems. maybe the PS4 will be able to, but I still think they wont |

As does mine. I'm using the Samsung Syncmaster SA950 which is a 120hz 1080 LED screen. However once you drop below the native 1080, the resolution starts getting blurry. At 720 it's extremely blurry. The best way to describe it is like looking down a camera out of focus.
But is seems that 720 is the limit of a PS3 which is unfortunate. But I guess I'll get used to it. :) |

Toshiba. I had this TV for a long time. The one that burns the screen. And it's not flat screen, it's heavy duty kind. Now, I just use it to watch tv in our living room. My new tv sits in our bedroom. |

It won't be 1920x1080. It will be 720p. The improvements visually will come from better textures, depth of field, and colour variety from the environment. As well with improvements to the lighting and, probably, animation and post processing affects. But, it will be at 720p. No reason to think there will be 1080 support.

  Well, yeah. It's from 2006.

That is factually incorrect. MGS4 runs native 1024x768 and upscales to the appropriate frames and the cutscenes would run at the same resolution since, almost, all of them are rendered real-time. Pretty common for MGS games to not pre-render their stuff. Nice of them too. Gives you an accurate indication of what the game is going to look like in trailer form.

The game was made to play in 720p I believe. Upscaling is just adding more pixels to a 720p picture and making it appear as if it is 1080p. Your PS3 has video HDMI settings and unchecking the other HD display options and leaving 1080p checked will force games that support it to play with those settings. If a game doesn't support 1080p it will automatically go to the lowest HD display picture setting. |
