Armor Plates have a movement speed penalty (10% at Complex) so why don't Shield Extenders have a penalty as well? Lets fix that. In EVE Extenders give you Signature Radius penalties so why not have Profile penalties in DUST for Extenders.
Basic = 3% to Scan Profile of your Dropsuit / Vehicle Advanced = 5% to Scan Profile Complex = 10% to Scan Profile
So if you're a Proto Heavy with 3x Complex Extenders your usual 65 scan profile becomes a 84.5. And a Proto Assault with 4x Complex Extenders goes from a 55 scan profile to a 77.
You trade Armor for mobility and Shields for stealth. |

Agreed. Either way, if you want to tank go ahead, but don't expect to be a ninja at the same time.

Please put up total HP per mod and the CPU/PG useage. I think you will discover that the CPU/PG draw per HP is MUCH MUCH greater than armor plates. |

This is balanced by the fact that shields, by default, recharge on their own rather quickly. Most suits have a shield recharge rate of roughly 25 HP/sec. To achieve the same thing you need 4x Complex Armor Repairers and Armor Repair V. And now you have no room left to fit the Armor Plates...
So if you want equal CPU/PG per HP then drop your shield regen. Since I doubt any sane person would do that the only course left, to balance the mobility penalty on Armor, is to induce a profile penalty on shield extenders.
It makes sense. More powerful shields put out more EM signals that increase your suits profile. |

Actually, the shield regen is balanced by flux grenades and laser rifles, and shields being easier, in general, to deplete than armor.
Bojo is right.

I just really don't want Scouts to be nerfed.
If we lose shields, then:
Armor plates would mean that we lose one of our key strengths, speed.
Shields would mean that we lose one of our key strengths, stealth.
I don't want to have a scout with no HP modules! |

- Laser Rifles melt my 1000+ armor Heavy in seconds as well. Its not like they only decimate shields.
- The HMG / SMG deal extra damage to Armor just like the LR and AR deal extra to shields.
- I'd happily take an anti-armor grenade like the EM grenade for 25 HP/sec armor regen, all the time, for free.
I guess I don't understand the hesitation to implementing profile increase on extenders. It's not like I am saying -10% damage or mobility. You want to shield tank, then just like in EVE your gonna have a higher profile.

I made a late edit to my post, so take a look at it. I'm not against a profile hit, but without acknowledging the fitting cost difference, you're stacking the deck.

I don't want to have a scout with no HP modules! True point.
Though, you could just put one extender and a bunch of rechargers on your suit. If you have Sensor Dampening V and a Complex Dampener and are using a scout suit the +10% the Complex Extender will add wont be much. Though I see your concern.
Truthfully, I wish it wasn't -X% to mobility but just +X KG mass for armor and we had sizes like 250KG, 500KG, 1000KG. And + 3, +5, +10 Profile for Extenders as they gave more HP. |

@Bojo Make it glass cannon? Damage mods instead of shields. They have crappy HP anyway. You could stack regulators for crazy shield recharge.
I agree on this request because it makes sense. Shield extenders user btw. |

shields don't have a penalty because CCP plays favorites. haven't you played EVE? all damage mods are on the low slots, meaning shield tanks can pump out way more damage than armor tanks. they also have the added benefit of moving faster.
if you put any points in piloting armor tanks you will regret it. once they make the shield hardeners take a small amount of capacitor it's over. the shields will rule everything again and all armor will be seen as a waste of points and isk. |
