ok i understand the pros and cons and some of the inputs on the matter but alot of you guys makie the mistake of compairing this game to EvE its not EvE is Cpu and Dust is Ps3 and Ps3 users expect alot more thaats just how its always been but you cant compair a cpu game to a consule game thats like compairing and a cat to a dog or something along those lines lol, but having been here since the closed beta i would prefer a refund to a reset we had to suffer through so many back to 0 resets and missles from jesus and so many other bs things it was insane lol |

You're wrong. This is EvE. It says so in the title. Dust is in the EvE universe. It's all connected and one of the same. Yes PS3 users expect different things - that's why this is free to play and not subscription like EvE. The mistake you're making is supposing that this game can be compared to the CODs and BFs already out on PS3 but despite current appearances, Dust 514 is hugely different and is something that people who haven't been in the beta for will not know what to expect. |

Your Absolut End wrote:Django Quik wrote:Your Absolut End wrote: So I am really curious how CCP is handling this. Because I really don't see any point how to be fair in this situation.
Take a good look at EvE. Really look. That's been going for 10 years with no resets or respecs (remaps and reallocations have occured extremely rarely due to total removal of skills) and EvE gains new players ALL THE TIME. Having massive differences in SP between starters and vets will not stop this game growing and it doesn't stop newer players doing well. I've said it on these threads before that it really doesn't matter that much - I have never used a booster of any kind and am at least 2 million SP behind the people who do but I still do just as well, if not better than many of them. I'm just saying that Dust will lose a lot of possible players with this. You can call this an advantage or disadvantage, however you see it. For sure all this guys coming to Dust from other FPS won't hang around here long, so most of all we will just get newer hardcore players. Which is also nice, but I don't see the marketing strategies behind sacrificing a lot of potential Dust-Players for a few Hardcore-People.
Replace "Dust" with "Eve" and "FPS" for "MMO" in your statement here and it should become glaringly obvious exactly how wrong you are. |

I think you're reading too much into that comment. Firstly, they're not saying SP respecs will happen, only that they weren't saying it won't. Secondly, from context my guess is it's only in case they rework the skill tree, and even then only affected skills. EDIT: and even then only maybe.
There's really no need for respecs in this game since there's no max level. |

Here's how I make sense of it.
There are two problems:
1)We have more SP than the newberries who will fall into New Edensville and find their tears being harvested before they start crying.
2)We want new skills, but we've already put SP into our current skills.
These two problems cancel each other out.
If there is NO SP refund at release, then we're basically on par with the newbies, are we not? Besides from some added experience, our SP advantage is not so great if all our skills are already placed in skills we don't want them to be in, rendering those points USELESS.
We therefore still possess an advantage, a huge one in fact, over newberries without an SP refund. With one, we will definitely get way too far ahead.
This is how, I assume, EVE has not required SP refunds either. Every 'game-breaking' change levels the playing field, so to speak. The vets possess the advantage in terms of total SP, but with new, shiny content which requires different skills, they're forced to gain SP at the same rate as always, at the same rate new players gain it, to unlock new content.

EVE players understand getting an SP refund if the Skill tree changes. And they have all cautioned us about spending SP while remembering SP is never wasted as it will all be used eventually.
If CCP keeps screwing things up with the Wang Nerf Hammer Of Doom on Forge Guns and everything else it Might be Required to constantly respec to keep ahead of their constant missteps. That would mean that equipment I purchased would need to be refunded as well as I would no longer be able to use it. Let CCP try and get the code right on that effort.
While I am here Kitten Brains maybe you could better pontificate about language by using the Orifice that your little QQ Kitten Brain is stuffed inside at this very moment? QQ are a wonderful lubricant. |
