This idea came from an offhand comment made in a squad with my corpmates about how it would be pretty cool to have a shooting range in ones merc quarters. A way to spend time while waiting for other corpies to finish their games and squad up rather than weeping over the skillpoints still needed to get X skill, weeping over the inability to sell my unneeded salvage on the market just yet, or weeping over my lamentable K/D for the bajillionth time.
I get a lot of weeping done in this game.
Anyway, I think it would be cool to be able to squeeze off a few rounds inbetween games. This being the future, It could even be takes so far as to have a "Holodeck" or "Danger room" (see thread title) on the station where the merc quarters are. Somewhere were people could test out new gear, practice against NPC enemies that offer no warpoints or salvage, polish their driving skills, etc. Perhaps with the ability to enter as squads aswell, which would be a handy a way for corps to train rookie members.
Perhaps to avoid overruse (There is no better training too that having your expensive suits blasted apart in real games afterall) there could be a time limit per day/per week on usingthis facility. Or perhaps make it an AUR service, similar to the Universal transmitter, pay X ammount and get access for a couple of weeks. Then renew if needed. |

i was thinking about something like this you can go to a Practice battle where you pay 20,000 ISK to play but you don't lose suits make money or SP simply personal skill basically it is a big technical looking holographic room where two different teams have at it in ambush plus there could be less expensive areas for target practice CQC and medium range and corps and individual people could buy pieces setups and spaces to make there own "corp training grounds" :) just a suggestion of epicness! thanks for bringing up the subject |

+1 Or just add another tab in Battle Finder titled: Practice Battle
Upon entering map through this list, you gain access to all the gear (dropsuits, weapons, vehicles, you name it) your Skills allow you too use. Every game mechanics works as usual, including final battle stats except nothing is recorded to the actual character chart. No ISK, SP or WP are gained from such a practice battle. Only pure game experience... Without the risk of loosing stuff...
Some service fee or tickets purchased from market would be OK imho...
And corps could buy special training facilities to place in their districts to train new members...
Maybe it is not a good example but... in RL armies train their soldiers in more friendly and controllable environments than battlefields I understand this is New Eden where you have not to worry much about cost of things. The only limit is your RL time |

Yea this looks good. I don't know about putting a limit on it. I'm sure people will get bored just being in one room playing with themselves and get back into the battle finder again after some practice.
It would also be cool if you could Try before you Buy weapons here. Be able to use heavy suits and make faux suit layouts. |

IMO practice CUBE map with moving targets imitating HAV and LAV or infantry A PLACE TO LEARN HOW TO FLY ?!?!
no limit no PVP no SP No isk just an empty box to practice
This could be coded in 5 min. |

Yea, you are probably right, that 23 AUR does make a pretty tempting buy until I realize I gotta pay for that and it will be gone in all of 3 seconds. I am more of a BPO person myself. |

Personally, a nice firing range that would allow you to shoot each type of gun and learn to drive or fly would be amazing. I would have loved to learn to fly without losing 300k dropships and a large gray cube-shaped room wouldn't be difficult to program, maybe with some basic assault dummies standing still or walking around and some vehicles in the corner. |

Well, its all down to the CONCORD liscencing bureau. On old Earth you had to pass a test to get a permit to drive while supervised and then wait for months and practice and pass a test to get a liscence to drive, that was for a Earth Car. Then eventually if you wanted to drive big trucks or operate heavy machinery you had to go pass more test and get a new liscence.
Here in New Eden, we believe that no child should be left behind. Why should you have to pass a test or even practice before getting behind the wheel of a billion isk spaceship or a 300k dropship. That would not be inclusive of CONCORD. We in New Eden believe that no training is nessecary because that would make you feel bad about yourself if you failed.

No training? And the skill books? You grind for ISK to buy them then let yourself on a learning binge. And you call that no effort? Pun intended |
