Here is IMO what I think needs to be buffed for Nova Knives:
I noticed every time I use Nova Knives my biggest complaint would have to be the fact that they are completely useless on the frontal part of the battlefield or for that matter, at ALL. So while I primarily would like to run them as my main there just isnGÇÖt any way for me or anyone to actually fully utilize them in combat. So I thought to myself how a Knifer best can utilize them in and out of combat without having a horrible KDR; by adding a deflection mechanic on them.
When you have the Nova Knives equipped there should be three primary buttons that you can use in combat: Melee (R3), Charge (R1) and Deflect (L1). And in that there should be a very small window for deflection (FRONT ONLY) that the user can deflect bullets, anywhere else sides or back will be vulnerable. HereGÇÖs a scenario for every situation both offensively and defensively: THIS IS BASED OFF OF STAMINA.
Offense:
1.) Fighting against AR's or SMG's, you can hold down L1 (Deflection button) and it will start to deflect direct fire bullets and for every bullet that registers your stamina will begin to deplete. Thus leaving you vulnerable without stamina to run, jump or deflect until it has finally cooled down.
2.) When facing against a Shotgunnner or Sniper each successful hit that registers from them will deplete an IMMENSE amount of stamina thus rendering you useless and vulnerable to be attacked.
3.) When facing HMG's depending on how many bullets are registered it will decrease even more so than standard weaponry so it will not be OP whilst fighting against an HMG.
4.) Forge Guns/Vehicles/Splash Damage/Melee weaponry: NO DEFLECTION.
Defense:
1.) Can be used to deflect bullets and grant points as Guardian when assisting nearby teammates (Radius Bound).
2.) Can be used to deflect bullets after your low on ammo and trying to escape a group of enemies.
3.) Can raise dampners up to 5-10%
4.) Can be used while sprinting (but also drains stamina even more)
5.) It looks badass.
Here are some vids I got inspiration from.

Understood but why do we even have them in the game if there almost completely useless? CCP should either buff them or just completely get rid of them. |

the nova knives fit a niche and are good at killing people quickly and silently. they're not assault rifles.. stop trying to make this a commando pro or a riot shield in dust514.
Perhaps you should properly read what I put instead of making an assumption. Plus I guarantee in time we will have mobile shields. |

I don't think you need more damage or extra abilities (we don't need raidens running around the field). I think you should be able to swing them freely whenever, and they should be more quiet. im sure nova knives will find their place much more with the scout camo and racial suits. Imho , its meant for stealth ops and quick moves, not running through bullet barrages. I know our suits enhance balance and reflexs , strength and speed but I'm sure from how the game plays, the suit was not meant to give you the reflexes to deflect incoming bullets. If your scout suit gave you reflexes that absurd, then the suits should also gives us that much more in strength and balance, can we then dual weild hmgs? I think you just have zandatsu fever Also, dont mean to rain on the nova parade, its purely personal opinion, but as I said, they deserve a buff, but def not those extra abilities.
Agreed, I only added the deflection mechanic soley based on a 1v1 but can also be used for defense in tough situations. But my question is why shouldnt we have the ability to deflect bullets? We (Mercenaries) have the technology and suits to enhance every single aspect of our body and mind. Plus if balanced correctly can open up gameplay again allowing people to experiment with builds like in closed BETA. And while I am on a ZAN-DATSU high I just want to be able to enjoy something Im good at as a gamer, CQC.

Maken Tosch wrote:The concept behind this is actually very sound. However, mind if I pitch in? For the record, this should be in the feedback section of the forums. Anyways, back to the main point. 1. Deflection should be chance based. A pair of nova knives are not going to be able to deflect every shot because the bullets are just too fast for even the exo-suit-powered arms to catch up. Perhaps make the chances of successful deflection increase with both the tier of the weapon and the passive bonus of related skill books and perhaps maybe a bonus from wearing a particular specialization suit. 2. Currently, there is a way to sprint with the charge held. Melee+R1(hold). This is just a glitch and CCP has mentioned outside of the forums that this is just a place holder mechanic until they allow direct sprint-charge in the next build. The downside with the glitch is that it drains stamina every time you start it and it becomes a complete hindrance when you're in the middle of a 1v1 dance of death. 3. Here is a link to my diaries so you can see all the data I managed to gather while specializing in this rare profession. As you can see, the nova knife was never meant to be used as a frontal-attack weapon. It's a stealth-based weapon that is extremely situational and only benefits the scout user. Once the cloaking modules are put into the market, the knives will become even deadlier.
I must agree I do like the skilling into proficiency of deflection having a roll of chance in order to properly deflect bullets but Nova Knives should not just be kept as JUST a stealth weapon. I understand every weapon has a time/place/purpose but no weapon should ever be limited to just one tier. IMO. |

In terms of being limited to a particular purpose, it's not a bad thing. I mean, I don't mind seeing people use the nova knives as a frontal-attack weapon, but I do know for a fact that the weapon is designed to shine best in stealth-attack situations such as when I kill folks who are hacking objectives, sniping at my teammates, etc. It's like taking a screw driver, grabbing it by the shank, and hitting the head of the nail with the handle. It might work, but the screw driver is best used to drive screws.
It is possible though to use it in combat against multiple foes IF properly suited.... There were a few times I have randomly decided to use it in combat and the results were actually surprising, granted I did go up against militia gear soldiers but it goes to show that if put in the right hands (Niche players, I guess) can prove to be very successful in combat. |
