Why do we need heavy smoke on the Mass Driver grenades?
It is a nice effect from a graphics standpoint but it does give the MD operator a very distinct advantage. In CQC the room fills with smoke and suddenly the one Red that needs killing is invisible. If this is by design I request a change in the design.
One alternative is for the MD operator to not be able see either (which they might not, just being paranoid here as they act like they can).
Another option is to enable MD operator damage from something Other than shooting at their feet. That might balance it a bit although I doubt it.
Or we could have All grenades do smoke. Which is what got me here in the first place. Why do they get it, the rest barely do and in the case of the Mass Driver is automatically awards an advantage.
At some point some EVE manufacturer will develop a HUD that actually works as well as one could expect on Earth in this century and not just a pretty face that serves very little purpose. Except to keep those Artists drawing more pretty useless helmets.

Disagree. Kinda.
A: The MD operator cant see either. Smoke effects everyone.
B: Keep it as is, untill we get ammo types, then reduse it unless we have ammo that causes it spicifly |

Let's step back a second.
What is the main reason there are no cries of UP on mass drivers despite them firing slowly, dealing severely reduced damage to shields (almost all suits are shield suits these days), being one of the most difficult weapons to aim at a distance in the game, being the only handheld weapon besides the forge gun and laser that can hurt the user, being almost entirely useless against enemies at a higher altitude than you, and having devastatingly limited ammo capacity?
They also disorient the enemy. That's why not. They give large hit markers that confuse the enemy since they can land on any side of the enemy despite the direction you are in. They can be rained down from above, thus making finding cover difficult.
And they obscure the enemies vision.
The smoke cloud is there because it is a weapon for clearing entrenched enemies and disrupting their counterattack. It's not just there for looks, it's a tactical addition on the mass driver that is there for a reason. It blinds the enemy so they have trouble shooting back, and so they cannot see as well to retreat. |

As a regular assault player, I can confirm that the mass driver can be a real pain in the ass, not because of the splash damage, but because of the smoke. I can't aim anymore. Better to get out of there before some random "invisible" shot takes me down. And occasionally I get hit directly by a MD-grenade in the dust and confusion it can cause. So your weapon definitely packs a punch, although not in the same way as other weapons. |

Can i just point out that MD rounds are explosives and explosions tend to kick up dust, the smoke effect is one of the few advantages we have. |

B. Is a very good solution.
I have trouble with the silly animation with a trail of smoke coming out. Really? We have rail guns everywhere, fantastic shotguns and we use what, black powder, to launch the grenades? Why not pressurized air (or something). It wouldn't give a trail back to the user. And we could all See.

Its a minmatar weapon so... maybe? They might use some kind of powder to launch it...
As a md user it should always cause that plume of smoke I find it amusing... |

I highly... very highly doubt this. What would be the point to removing them? There is no huge outcry to remove them, so what would be the point? |
