I don't know **** about physics, I just thought that a planets atmosphere prevented you from seeing the nebula like that. ::shrugs:: Looks pretty.

Atmosphere does have a part in that though. That's why most telescopes are either high up and/or way out in the open.

Though maybe the impact of something several thousand meters long disrupted the atmosphere along with that destroyed warp core it could have ionized the atmosphere.
