I'm very new to gaming...well, new to anything that dates past some very old consoles which I won't mention to age myself. Bottom line, I see a lot of terms being used on the forum and find myself wondering just what in the beep are they talking about? I really don't want to ask this every time I read one, because posting this once is embarrassment enough that I don't know these things.
Any chance of posting a perm remark with the definition of common Dust and/or gaming terms (or acronyms) used on this forum? I'm asking mostly for the terms specific to Dust, but if anyone can add a few general gaming terms a newb like me wouldn't understand would also be much appreciated.

Blueberry; a random public player. Often used unkindly to describe players who use selfish or ineffectual playstyles.
CA= Caldari
GA= Gallente
AM= Amarr
MI = Minmatar (could be wrong on that one).
Oh and in refernce to God-Nova above
prefixing M to any of the weapon abbeviations means its a militia weapon MAR, MMD, MFG. |

Could you maybe come up with a couple you don't know? Or maybe some you do? I mean there are a LOT of terms out there for shooters alone. Here are some random ones anyway:
Nerf: Weaken the stats of a weapon
Buff: Increase the stats of a weapon
blueberry: new player on your team who sucks
bluedot: a player on your team who has some knowledge on how to play
(redberry/dot versions have pretty much the same definitions)
etc. etc. |

If you are very new to modern gaming, especially fps I suggest you look elsewhere. There are plenty of other good fps games that are also free, and Dust 514 in my opinion does not qualify in its current state. Its really not a good example for games |

dust is hardly unplayable, it has it's problems but it's not that bad. |

DUST, in it's open beta stage, has about 450 players online, playing matches, at the moment. 14 games x 32 players each. Can't be too bad for a game which hasn't been released yet. |

are you just counting the merc battles? there's always plenty of instant matches going as well so those aren't the most reliable statistic |

CB = Corp Battle.
FW = Faction Warfare.
PC = Planetary Conquest.
Shield Tanking/Armor Tanking = The primary area you're boosting your EHP (Effective Hit Points) in. It can be misleading as some tanks are better shield tanks because they have better shield tanks and vice-versa. Tanking also applies to dropsuits so a Type-II Caldari assault suit for example has a better shield tank than the Type-I.You can also speed tank (for shotgun scouts mostly) or omni-tank, i.e. boost shield and armor.
Flux = Flux Grenade.
Prox = Proximity Mine.
RE = Remote Explosive.
AV = Anti-vehicle.
TD = Tank Destroyer.
AI = Can mean either Artificial Intelligence or Anti-Infantry.
DT = Downtime. Between 11:00 and 11:30 hours GMT daily the servers are offline.
ISK = Inter Stellar Kredit. In game money.
MCC = Mobile Command Center. The big ships in skirmish matches that people spawn in.
CRU= Clone Reanimation Unit. It's the hackable spawn point that doesn't display a huge glowing letter at all times.
And there are probably others that aren't used as much. I think I've seen MQ for Merc's Quaters and DU for drop uplink but they're not very common. |

It has the potential to be playable, however as it is right now, no. By todays standards for games its unplayable. Mostly because the controls are so bad, but that doesnt mean you cant try to play it. Still even then, dust is 'tolerated' rather than 'played' imo |

I have no choicd but to use the overplayed card here- it's a beta. There's still plenty of kinks to be worked out and you just need to find something fun to do in dust, for me it's flying and running people over in an LAV. but back to the original topic
EHP- effective health points (how much hp you have when you combine base hp values of shields and armour and any bonus's from plates,hardeners, resistance amps,energized plating etc) |

Here's another term that's been missed, but is bandied around a lot.
Redline - generally there's an "out of bounds" area. For team A, it includes their initial spawning area (skirmish only) but not team B's spawn area. Redline snipers snipe from this out of bounds area, meaning most things can't get to them. |

This is a really good thread! Trying to read these forums is sometimes like trying to read another language with all the abbreviations and acronyms.

I'll definitely check out others, thanks for then suggestion...but doubt I'll just quit Dust. I like the concept of it, so I'm fine with being patient while they work on the bugs.
As far as which terms, I think most I have seen are listed in this thread, so thanks for adding them. It helps a lot. |

I would be. I'm enjoying the game in its current state, and I'm very much looking forward to what's coming.
That said, I wouldn't play it for too long. Games like DUST in its current state (no metagame) get me very bored, very quickly. Give me a game where my actions actually mean something, and I'll play. |

Been almost a year. Figured might as well ride it out until the next build at least.
Dont know if ccp is actually listening to me so Im pretty much just here to kill time while afk farming.
Also this is in the background of my eve online activities of course. I do want dust to succeed...
but its not a requirement for my revenue in new eden. If they dont at least increase the angle of the terrible fov next build ill prob not log in anymore |

Hey now, I have exiled a tank or two in my day....the trick is to hit them while they are on fire :), that is usually caused by my AV spam....Nothing can anger a tank driver more than being finished off by an AR....maybe a sniper rifle, but that's something else entirely... |
